I don't think they kiss up or down play the violence. They just roll with the punches. Its like anything in life. I remember when some Asians smoked some Valerio(sp) Street gangsters in the valley. The prison system in Cali is set up that way especially going through the County Jail. But what you may not know or have mistaken is the blacks aren't really racist. Thats why blacks and Norte's get along. that's a pretty vague and general stereotype with little knowledge...

Asians may be though of as that way because for one - they make up the smallest percent in the nation (next to prolly Native Americans). also, culturally, we are a very quiet race. ya think there's a lotta killings and violence happening in Black communities goin' unnoticed? Asians have just as much, if not more because of the "code of silence".

also, if you look at media in general, Asians are the last race to start bein' seen regularly...from the start of radio/tv, it was whites as mainstream...then blacks started to come in more and more and eventually hispanics...asians are the last race to start breakin' that "glass-ceiling" down...

This was the FBI report in 2002. If you factor in population numbers based on 2000 census, hate crimes committed against Black Americans are still higher percentage wise than against others. Of course a lot of hate crimes don't get reported, so I'm sure the numbers aren't as accurate.

here's some hate crimes reported against Asians...i might be generalizin' here, but it just goes to show how little "power" Asians have here in the states...a lot of these crimes would be punished or punished much harder if they were against another race...these crimes are sad and deserve much harder punishment...not because it was against Asians, but because these crimes are often unprovoked...

January 2003-New York City

A group of 4 middle-aged Chinese ladies were having dinner at Caffe on the Green in Bayside, Queens and conversing in Chinese. A group of Italians (2 men and 2 women) started disrespecting them by calling them "chink" and "gook." On the way out, the 2 men got up and threw down one of the women, then all 4 Guidos punched her until she was semi-conscious while calling her "chink" and "gook". The entire waitstaff stood by enjoying the entertainment and after it was finished, the bartender went by and told her to "Get the fuck out of here."

December 2002-New York City

In a December 8 article "Asian students hit in rash of high school attacks," Daily News staff writer Maki Becker provides the following incidents occuring at Lafayette High School, a Brooklyn school which has a long history of racial tensions aimed at Chinese students: A group of blacks jumped and beat up Siukwo Cheng while yelling racial slurs at him. On November 21, a Chinese male student was mugged at knifepoint on the campus. A week later, another Chinese student was beaten up in a cafeteria fight.

November 17, 2000-New York City

Connie Leung's parents wanted her to be in a relationship with an Asian instead of her black boyfriend, Eric Louissant. Connie Leung and Eric Louissant waited at home for her father, Stephen Leung to come home. The lovers then ambushed the 55 year old man (her father), took a leather belt and tightened it around his neck, choking Stephen Leung to death. They then waited for her mother, Chilin Leung to come home. They ambushed her, wrapped the leather belt around her neck and choked her to death as well. The bodies were stored in the apartment. Days later, the two shoved Chilin Leung's body in a laundry sack, put the sack in a shopping cart and hurled it down into the East River. Then Stephen Leung's body was also stuffed in a laundry sack, placed in the shopping cart and hurled into the East River as well. The Chinese teenager and her 20 year old black boyfriend then took her dead parents' cash (about $1000) and jewelry which they pawned off. When the couple was linked to the crime and charged, they pleaded guilty and investigators on the scene said they showed "no remorse." Guess love really does conquer all...

July 16, 2001-Newmarket, New Hampshire

Thung Phetakoune, a Laotian American man was killed in a hate crime by Richard Labbe, a 35 year old white male. Labbe stated: "those Asians killed Americans, and you won't do anything about it, so I will...call it payback." Ironically, Phetakoune had served in the Vietnam War for Laos, fighting side-by-side with Americans killing Asian people while helping the Americans turn his country into a mine-infested, disease-ridden wasteland of junkies and hookers.

March 2000-Great Falls, Virginia

Jane Wagner does a hit and run killing 14 year old Naeun Yoon. Wagner was driving home after a party when she hit Yoon on Route Seven then fled the scene. After, she is brought to trial and sentenced to spend her weekends in a minimum security prison for one year. Not necessarily a hate crime but could you get off with such a lenient sentence if the victim was anyone but Asian?

August 1999-San Francisco, California

Hien Nguyen, a 60-year old retired farmer, was beaten to death while takin a walk in his San Francisco neighborhood by Jose Nunez Ortiz. Ortiz attacked Nguyen, stomped Hien Nguyen to death, then finished by spitting and urinating on his corpse. The case was reported by the media a year later. Minimal punishment for Ortiz.

September 7, 2000-Queens, New York City

Five black teenagers (Robert Savage, Darryl Tyson, James Murphy, James Stone and Stacy Royster) called The Golden Wok Chinese restaurant from a cell phone and requested a delivery to an abandoned house where they ambushed Sheng Jin Liu, the delivery man, put a bag over his head, then beat him to death with a brick. There were not starving ghetto kids looking for a meal, these were described by the AP as being from middle-class families.

New York City

Zhou Zheng, 40, who works for the King Wok restaurant at 54-05 8th Ave. in Sunset Park, was on his way to 884 40th St. just after midnight when he was confronted by two to five men on 41st Street who demanded his money, cops said. Police said Zheng tried to get away, but one of the men slashed him in the back with a knife or razor. The men robbed him of $300, then got into a gray Cadillac and fled, cops said. The attack was the latest in a string of robberies on deliverymen. Two men were mugged murdered and another two were brutally beaten in a span of six months.

August 12, 2000-Baltimore, Maryland

A Laotian man was waiting at a bus stop in southeast Baltimore at approximately 7 am on Saturday, August 12th (corner of N. Hilton and E. Baltimore). 49 year old Somanh Thamavong was then beaten brutally by (at least) 2 teenage boys and was sent to Johns Hopkins medical center.

February 27, 2000-SUNY-Binghamton, New York

A group of male and female Asians were assaulted by Caucasian members of the Binghamton University (SUNY) wrestling team. One was severely injured and suffered from a fractured skull. John Lee He was kicked in the head and beaten. He was sent to the hospital with fractured skull and internal bleeding. Racial slurs were said by the wrestlers, causing retorts from the Asian students, a fight then quickly erupted. Though this was clearly a racial issue, the Binghamton administration and student newspaper (Pipe Dream) have said and doen nothing in regards to this matter being racial. The administration believes nothing will come out of this since Asian Americans have been known to be "passive" and "quiet" when it comes to matters of justice and politics. Fermin Tobera, a Filipino-American who was killed in race riot in Watsonvilled, California in 1930. Tobera is widely considered one of the earliest Filipino-American victims of anti-Asian American violence. In media reports, it was added as a side note Buford Furrow killed a postal worker moments after shooting up a Jewish Community Center in Granada Hills, CA. The Los Angeles Times repeatedly identified Ileto primarily as a postal worker, and secondarily as a Filipino-American. Had the aforementioned attack involved any non-Asians, it most likely would not have been reported at all like the other anti-Asian incidents of violence.

April 1999

Naoki Kamijima was murdered in his own store by Douglas Vitaioli, who had been checking out other stores for minorities.

Won Joon Yoon, a student at Indiana University, was killed by white supremacist Benjamin Smith, who was on a vendetta against Asians, Jews and African-Americans.

May 1995-Los Altso, California

John Lee stops, pulls into a gas station. He is approached by Justin Adams who puts his hands together and starts bowing "Buddha-like," squinting his eyes and imitating an Asian accent. Two of Adam's friends joined in, then the three white men beat John Lee until he was on the ground and then started taking turns kicking his head. The trial resulted in a hung jury, which in layman's terms means the defendants (Adams and friends) got off.

February, 1994-Brighton, Massachusetts

An elderly Cambodian woman is outside a health clinic where several white teenagers spit in her face and hit her in the head with bottles and dared her to call the police. Of course, racial epithets were being yelled all the while.

December 12, 1995-Navato, California

Robert Page attacks Eddie Wu with a knife in a parking lot as Wu is exiting a grocery store. Page first stabbed Wu in the back then proceeded to puncture his lungs with the knife. In Page's confession to the police, he wrote matter-of-factly that: "I'm going to kill me a Chinaman."

June 1994-Boston, Massachusetts

Two Asian men were attacked by a hockey team (10-15 white men) who surrounded them and beat them with hockey sticks.

April 30, 1994-Brighton, Massachusetts

A Vietnamese family is attacked and beaten by several of their white neighbors with baseball bats and hockey sticks while yelling racial slurs, leaving all family members in the hospital. The end result was that both the attackers and the Vietnamese family were charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon even though none of the Vietnamese family members even had a weapon and they were the ones attacked.

1997 Syracuse, New York

A group of Asians students are waiting to be seated at Denny's. They are obviously passed over for other customers and the hostess yelled at them when the students attempted to voice a complaint. At the same time, a large group of white males were exiting and yelled: "Get the fuck out of here" to the students. They then started punching the Asian students (both male and female) until they were unconscious. The security guards stood and watched so the beating continued until some of the other patrons of the restaurant came in to pull them off. The police refused to accept a complaint from any of the victims.

1995-Vallejo, California

A Chinese family is at an amusement park where a small group of miscreants thought it would be amusing to taunt the family telling them to "Go home" and "Get out of my country," forcing the family to exit the park. The taunters seem to be very protective of a country stolen from Asians (NAs) in the first place, typical white assholes.

April 28, 1997-Rohnert Park, California

After being racially taunted, physically attacked, and stabbed in the face with a dart at a Cotati bar, an intoxicated Kuanchung Kao screamed out of frustration in the middle of his street. Police officers Mike Lynch and Jack Shields were quick to arrive and proceeded to try and scare him by driving full speed then slamming on the brakes in front of him. Kuanchung then used a thin (less than one inch thick) piece of wood to hit the hood of the car. "In a attempt to get him to drop the stick", Jack Shields drew his gun and shot Kuanchung Kao in the heart. When Kao's wife, a registered nurse attempted to perform first aid, the officers handcuffed her and threw her face down on the pavement leaving Kuanchung Kao to bleed to death in his driveway while his children watched. No form of reprimandation has been given to either officer, instead the Sonoma County Sheriffs office has channeled their efforts into searching the Kao household in hopes of finding martial arts paraphernalia to prove he was dangerous. Martial arts studios in the surrounding areas have also been scoured in attempts to find someone willing to claim Kao was a practitioner.

January 29, 1996-Tustin, California

Thien Minh Ly, a 24 year-old former graduate of UCLA, was rollerblading on a high school tennis court. Two whites, Dominic Christopher and Gunner Lindberg attacked Thien Minh Ly and beat and stabbed him to death. In a note from Lindberg to a friend, he stated: "Oh, I killed a jap a while ago...I stabbed him in the side about 7 or 8 times, he rolled over so I stabbed him in the back about 18 or 19 times, then I kicked his head a bunch of times and slit his jugular veins, I stabbed him about 20 or 21 times in the heart...then I told Dominic to kick him so he kicked the fuck out of his face."

1982-Detroit, Michigan

Vincent Chin challenges the expectation of the accomodating, subservient worker by talking back to peers Ronald Ebens and Michael Nitz. The two white men follow Chin and a friend to a club where they call him a "boy" and "little mother fucker", a fist fight ensues in the parking lot. Nitz retrieved a baseball bat from his car and Chin fled the scene. Hours later, Ebens and Nitz caught up to Chin at a McDonalds. They dragged him into the parking lot, and while Michael Nitz held Vincent Chin down, Ronald Ebens took home run swings with a baseball bat to his head until pieces of Vincent Chin's brain and skull were scattered across the parking lot. After the trial, Ebens and Nitz both received a probation sentence, a $3,000 fine, and neither has ever spent a day in jail for the crime because according to the state judge: "all Mr. Ebens and Mr. Nitz intended to do was administer a punishment to Mr. Chin." The killing occurred a week before Vincent Chin's wedding.

Damn you and your green light on Asians! There's a green light because the other side dont like us. They see us as weak and an easy target. You need to come to that realization. We are low in numbers compared to many other minorites, but yet and still a lot of us bang on each other like we in the Cambodian killing fields or a Vietnam war. The other side targets our whole race because of a few people. That's messed up and what can you and me do to stop that problem.

How many times have you been asked the question, "do your family eat cats and dogs?" like we still in Asia starving? "Do you know kung fu? We are stereotyped and mocked very often, you can see it all the time in the media and everyday situations. I have known some very down and cool Asians and Mexicans. The cultures are very different and the mix seems to work best in the workplace and the military.

BDL has mentioned that historically on the street in traditional varrios there has been good relationships in the past before that beef put the green light on.

SINCE then the mix doesn't work in prison and specific neighborhoods that are at war with each other.

But it's really tragic for both sides in my opinion the situation even exists. It's not a historical beef.
