Why use the name East Coast in Los Angeles?

Why do the East Coast Crips use the name "East Coast" when they are in Los Angeles which we all know is the west coast?

I've heard that, since they once occupied almost all of the east side along the 110, it was almost like a coastline towards the west side - hence the name East Coast. It has nothing to do with the east coast of the US to do.

This is where Raymond Washington had started Eastside Crips back in 1969/1970, so East Coast crips was just an evolution of the name.
