Gangbanging and bodybuilding/weightlifting
What happened to the bodybuilding among gang members in L.A.? Weightlifting and strength was a part of your 'uniform' in the early days of banging. When did it stop?

Re: Gangbanging and bodybuilding/weightlifting
You need to look at history of the streets to understand the answer to that question.
1980's drugs was huge and it changed the culture for many. Kali Muscle talks about up north being workout central while Southern Cali
became a drug hub for blacks who were locked up.
With guns and drugs being in the picture black people didnt see the point in being big unless they were playing sports.
With that said you still see plenty of big guys in the street who work out, but bodybuilding is a profession. Unless you are apart of that culture
which isn't apart of gangbanging than you dont see any reason to do it. That's also mainly a prison thing.

They took out weights from all California state prisons cus the inmates were getting huge and beating up COs.bgcasper wrote:it stopped when mma got all them steroided musclor out of breath or too slow for real life situation unfit for real scrap ..also noaday in la pinta they only have bars no weight lift allowed like in the days
They only have bars now to do calisthenics like pull ups and dips. Some inmates still get huge from calisthenics, especially the Sureños because they have to workout mandatory everyday in county jail and prison.
The blacks don't have mandatory workout.

Re: Gangbanging and bodybuilding/weightlifting
Weightlifting in varrios and hoods was probably bigger in the 70s and 80s because they were mostly fist fighting.comptonblockz wrote:What happened to the bodybuilding among gang members in L.A.? Weightlifting and strength was a part of your 'uniform' in the early days of banging. When did it stop?
Then the 90s came and everyone was using guns.
Why spend so much time lifting weights when somebody would rather shoot you than throw hands
