Hispanic Gangs in Compton in 1978
I found an old map of gangs in 1978 in LA COUnty and in Compton this is what is on the map:
- Largo
- Tortilla Flats
- 155
- CV 70 Setentas (2 separate varrios)
- CV 3 (2 separate varrios)
Only two of the neighborhood in 1978 were putting CV in front of their name.

Re: Hispanic Gangs in Compton in 1978
From what I've been told, Latinos gangs have been asked to put "CV" in front of their name by the mafia when they organized their meeting in some parks in 93/94. That was a way to unify the barrios in order to have more control on them. Before that, most of the gangs used only "Compton"+ their name, or just their name.
155 seems to be the oldest. Then, I think it was Largo, and then CV 3 (La Tres). "3" stands for the third barrio created in Compton.

These were the only VArrios mapped. A LA County deputy gave me a copy of his old maps in the 1990s, and I recently found them. I wonder how accurate it is.H572DSTA wrote:alexalonso wrote:I found an old map of gangs in 1978 in LA COUnty and in Compton this is what is on the map:

@ H572DSTA- Respectfully, what do you see that you feel is incorrect? Is it the info. concerning the gangs active during this time period, or is it the location that they describe as their turf. Or both? Interested in your insight?H572DSTA wrote:shit is fucced upalexalonso wrote:here is the Map from 1978.

@Alonzo- What do you feel about the map? Based on your research, do you feel that this map adequtely describes the ACTUAL demographics of gangs in that area, and era?
I appreciate any insight either of you may have.

@ H572DSTA: I appreciate that insight bruh. I did not know that Kelly Parc and Atlantic Drive were even around in 1978. I'm sure it was difficult for the law to get info on gangs back then, not like today.

Re: Hispanic Gangs in Compton in 1978
Some of these neighborhoods were just starting out around 1978, many were not claiming Piru or Compton Crip. Some were "huslers" and some were "boys" so the bangin' scene was not that intense.
Fruit Town may have been bigger in '78, that's certainly possible. If the map is missing the Hustlers, then I give it a pass. Hustlers back then were like taggers today, they didnt bang, but some made the transition while others didnt.

That map seems to indicate that the Mexican gangs in CPT were already as prominent as the black gangs. That's kind of hard to believe.alexalonso wrote:Some of these neighborhoods were just starting out around 1978, many were not claiming Piru or Compton Crip. 155, Tortilla Flats and Largo go way back. Not sure which one, but a couple of these Mexicans hoods were there before the Crips and Pirus, so I am not surprised that Mexicans were there in the 1970s. Also in Watts, Mexicans been in Watts, just north of Compton for over 100 years in large numbers.Silencioso wrote:That map seems to indicate that the Mexican gangs in CPT were already as prominent as the black gangs. Re: Hispanic Gangs in Compton in 1978
Actually the Largos were started in 1948, which is not surprising because their neighborhood is the original barrio (in the sense of a pocket of strong Latino concentration) in Compton/Willowbrook. They died in the 1950s but were revived in 1959. This barrio, which actually covers Largo's and Locos'/Fruit Town's current neighborhoods, has had the biggest Hispanic concentration in Compton since the 1920, and still today. You barely see any Black over there, except for the FTP hood.
There was another Latino gang in the area (Willowbrook) in the 1950s: El Jardin, which is not on the map, but I don't know when they disappeared.
CV3 was already there in the 1960's, and as I already said, according to some OGs from that era, the "3" stands for the third Latino gang ever started in Cpt.

Re: Hispanic Gangs in Compton in 1978
I haven't talked to anybody from CV3 yet, but I talked to 2 veterans who were already active in the 1960's when La Tres was created, and that's what they told me. But I know that a lot of people say what you said: the 3 is for 133rd st. I'm trying to get in touch with some dudes from over there, I hope I'll get an answer.Silencioso wrote:Are you sure? Re: Hispanic Gangs in Compton in 1978
this map seems all good cause its exactly were t flat was before the locos their og hood so that must be accurate also tf dont put cv cause of their firts generation not being from compton but east los but that concept faded out quikly as soon as banger jump in compton joined that got erased but yall have to know that acording to some locos was an out of compton gang just like flats and got even brought in compton to back the flats against largos historykly the flats was the one cool with blacks and largo were the first to beef and drop body against jordan down back in 80's ...strange a gang of big hood missing the tanas car ??? most south cpt from ad to scc was under grandees influence as far as crippin those were the ogs but they seems to focus on vatos on that map and they was the major cpt gangs before funky 80's
