What's the history on this gang? And how long have they been around?

the started in the 1940's under the name Hunter Street. When the Estrada Courts projects were built many Hunter St.member s lived there and re named the gang Varrio Nuevo Estrada.

Estrada Courts was constructed in 1942-1943, during the World War II housing shortage following the war boom. Servicemen from the military and immigrant in the Bracero program moved here, but apparently the immigrant population, mostly Mexicans, dominated the housing over time. Not sure how many white military folks lived in Estrada Courts during the 1940s.

That would make sense that there were called Hunter Street before the PJ’s were built

because “Varrio Nuevo” literally means “New NeighborHood”

and of course, “Estrada” after the name of the then new Projects = VNE

this "new" neighborhood is now among the oldest in LA.

In fact, they are so old that they are of of those few select varrios; that just needs to say their initials (VNE) & most jente from LA. who is reasonably street knowledgable will know exactly what it means


think about it, how many other varrios can just shoot their initials at you if you hit 'em up and u'll know immediately where they're from?

I would have to say that the VNE Tick Tocks were there first

In that old 1978 East Los map, Winter Gardens is missing but VNE has a big ass hood over there all along Olympic Blvd

Which they’re still there… just nowhere near as big



Olympic Blvd is also straight bee line to the VNE courts as well … so they we connected to the mother varrio.



I was actually chopping it up with a vato from VNE this Saturday @ a hood function

Tick Tocks is a neighborhood name to distinguish from the original Estrada Courts VNE

It’s like we have the 2nd hood, well VNE has the Tick Tocks
