Re: Bangers in the 70s
In the early 70's every black gang had their own signiture clothing items, like acey ducey hats for Crips, brim hats for L.A. Brims etc. Vinyl bomber jackets were big with Crips for a while.
Re: Bangers in the 70s
I remember the vinyl bomber jackets, they had the burgundy and blue ones. I didn't realize that the color mattered until I was in the fourth grade (late 70's). I also remember the croak a sack shoes were real popular.

"HEY, WHO STARTED THE NIKE CORTEZ STYLE?"
I don't know who or exactly which gang started wearing those plain nikes white the nike logo on each side, but since the late 80s those shoes have been the preferred footwear of mexican american cholos; occasionaly see black gangsters wearing them also. Often times, its hard to distinguish a tagger from a gangster, or from your average ghetto boy; but if someone is wearing nike cortez, 90% percent of the time they're a gangster, or a wannabe ganster at the least. For those unfamiliar with gangster were--never wear nike cortez shoes in los angeles, strangers will come up to you asking, "where you from, holmes"?

blue denim dickie/ben davis overalls with wife beaters/hoodies and white t-shirts often worn with various kinds of head gear bandannas/brims etc...
another thing with overalls in LA was alot of homies used to fold the bib part of the overall down over their lap area and leave the overall straps hangin down in the back..lots of crips back in the 70's used to do this
dickie/carhartt blue denim utility jeans all creased up with a cuff were big

Re: Bangers in the 70s
kinda noticed that alot of cholos started wearing big oversized black windbreakers around this time...with their hoods name on the back or front in old english letters
black trench coats were popular with the cholos in the 60's, sometime in the 70's peeps just stopped rockin' trenches.
lots of G's around this time started wearing athletic gloves with the cut off fingers eazy-e style...

What about Chucks? Do black gangstas ask you what you claim if you wear Chucks?
Re: Bangers in the 70s
one more thing about the overalls in LA...back in the 70's the mexican G's used to rock em with one strap hanging down and the other one still up...but later on down the line that just became standard LA style for everyone..and later everywhere across the USA
Re: Bangers in the 70s
Oh damn, that started in LA in the 70's? I remember doing that back in the day.
