The rap artist formerly known as C-Murder is in line for a new trial in connection with a club shooting more than four years ago.
On Friday, the Louisiana Supreme Court scrapped the second-degree murder conviction of Corey Miller, a case that had been in legal limbo for almost two years.
Miller, 35, was convicted in the shooting death of Steve Thomas, 16, who was gunned down outside the now-defunct Platinum Club in Harvey on Jan. 12, 2002. Miller faced a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.
Defense attorney Ron Rakosky said he would seek to have Miller, who has been jailed since the shooting, released on bond Monday.
Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul Connick Jr. said he had not had time to review the ruling and declined comment. Connick's office will have the decision on whether to retry the case.
Although Miller was found guilty by a jury on Sept. 30, 2003, State District Judge Martha Sassone later ordered a new trial on the grounds that prosecutors failed to tell the defense about the criminal backgrounds of witnesses who testified that Miller shot Thomas.
The state 5th Circuit Court of Appeal reversed Sassone last year, ruling that even without the witness accounts, other evidence pointed to Miller's guilt. But the Supreme Court reinstated Sassone's decision, saying her ruling "reflects a painstaking review of the evidence."
Miller, who also faces an attempted murder charge in Baton Rouge, changed his stage name to C-Miller last year, saying his former moniker was misunderstood by the public.

So they retry him and win, lose, or draw:
"Miller, who also faces an attempted murder charge in Baton Rouge, changed his stage name to C-Miller last year, saying his former moniker was misunderstood by the public."
... it looks like he's off to stand trial for another crime, that of attempted murder right?
I don't see how he's misunderstood.

He took a plead for 10 years in prison. He does not want to risk going to trial and getting that life sentence again. Everyone says he did shoot that 16 year old kid, so i guess it will be hard to defend if there are 5 witnesses or so that are all pointing at C Murdah. He got a good offer. Not sure if he will get time served for the time he did after the first trial.

The 10 year sentence is for an attempted murder charge which was caught on tape, here it is here
