Brazilian gangsta rap!

Unread post by punamusta » December 15th, 2006, 4:33 pm

MV Bill - Soldado do Morro -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOaQnKhdIIA

MV Bill - Traficando Information -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ik27BDGl7g

First video is one of the hardest videos I've seen... People posing with machine guns, etc. and you can tell it's all real, not fake.

Second video has a better song in it, and good video also.

And speaking about non-american gangsta rap, here's IAM from Marseille, France. Not actually a gangsta rap group, but this video is rude and shows how it is in Marseille.

IAM - Demain C'est Loin -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxSp3F2QzSw

It's not always necessary to understand what they are saying. Music and books are different things. I don't understand a word either, but I still like their beats, flows, and the feeling of those videos. When I started to listen to american rap as a young kid, I dind't understand nothing but a few words from here and there, but I still liked it.

True.

Oh, and did anyone else notice that every video posted here has white and black people together in it? That's kinda different comparing to USA rap videos...

Oh, and here's a short clip from an Ugandan hiphop documentary:

Diamonds in the Rough.

Shows how much style these people got! Babaluku I've heard before, others are unknown to me...

I got the impression, that this "whigger" stuff is a very american issue.
And also, that america is still very much segregated in a way.

Here's more African hiphop. These videos are from a Somalian guy called K'naan. He's currently living in Canada. He spits pure wisdom (and in english..)!

K'naan - What's Hardcore
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymilgCJjIys
Although this video is done by some random internet-user, the song is still great. And offers a lot to think about to anyone who considers themselves as "hardcore".

K'naan - Soobax
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRqGIwkZ-Ew
This song is one of his best known songs. Filmed in Somalia and directed for the Somalian warlords. Very strong song and video! Everyone interested of Africa should see this.

K'naan - Struggling

Haven't heard of NTM that much, but that song was nice. I liked the dancehall style it has. Video itself was pretty lame, but it doesn't really matter.

Sinik's song was great! Crazy feeling and energy in it!

And about that Thai-rap... That song sounded just like American-rap. Only the language was different. Nothing original there..

True. What I've understand from this board and from my friends that been in US, people in US pretty much stay with their "own". It's like people actually choose to be segregated.

It is true. A friend of mine studied in Bangkok and told me about them. He said they are strictly copycats of american style.
