Music in Europe: Whats Your Opinion On Westwood

Unread post by Sean2 » March 19th, 2004, 7:05 pm

What is peoples opinion on BBC Radio one Hip Hop DJ Tim Westwood. Propably the biggest wigga in the UK. I'v heard his show a few times now and the first half an hour is almost always identical. He talks in this halarious version of an "American Accent" He reguralary plays Outkast 'Hay Ya'(dont laugh) and in general he often plays kinda chart/R&B remix stuff. Hip Hop aint my "first love" when it comes to music but I do like it but know all this commercial stuff is crap.

Also Westwood is constantly "biggin himself up" and getting other rappers to do so. Is it just to sell records ,in the UK, that they do this. Also he is constantly using a bomb sound effect...

I'v heard other DJ's on 1Xtra on Digital Radio and these seem quality. The dont speak in a fu*#-with makeshift American accent, they speak in London accents and in general the music is better.

What do other people think of this...?

St Patricks day was,of course, a day of drinking for us Ice LOL. It always is. But if you think this subject is getting off the point of Street Gangs then think again. There was alot of trouble in Dublin, especially in Tallagh, as youths were causing mini-riots in their area. One paper, had one story which showed a picture of a womans car window smashed in, the front of her house damaged and a report of members of her family being attacked. Also a fella got stabbed in Swords, a town in north Dublin

She caught four youths beating-up a relative outside their house. When she tried to stop it she was chased with her young son. Her older son was also chased and got beat with Golf clubs. After this around 20 youths joined in the attack on their house using bricks, stones, poles and other stuff. It lasted around 20 mins before the Garda(police) were called. These were not gangsters though just thugs, or as we call them over here skangers.

It was a good day apart from this though, lots of nice birds(girls) around and plenty of drink.

Westwood is the worlds biggest wigga.

FACT.

He is completely unrepresentative of UK hip hop. Over here we don't listen to commercial radio for ou music. We listen to pirate. Most pirate stations only play garage and drum n base but there are some, like Itch FM that are exclusively hip hop.

Here are the best UK soundclicks.

Yardies is a generic term for Jamaican organized crime in england. It's a shame they didn't kill tim Westwood who's a boring 40-year old wigga who plays utter shite on his shitty radio show.

The best UK underground music simply doesn't go commercial. It stays underground on pirate stations. anything that goes commercial, like So Solid Crew did, justgoes under in a few weeks.

Here are some UK soundclicks:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/chr1smusic.htm
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/6/steel ... pmusic.htm

This is the real face of UK music.
As you can see it's got pretty much it's own style, but alot of that is fading thanks to people like Westwood playing imported commercial stuff.

Also do a websearch on 'Channel-U', probably the only music station to play underground UK videos ahead of commercial US stuff.
