Dj Screw was one of the first Dj`s out of the South to get a deal with a major label. He became famous for creating a new sound called Screwed up and Chopped. He pitched the songs down, chopped em and mixed em together.

I copped that Kay Slay/OG Ron C Get On Ya Grind and Papoose is on ther, shit sounds fucked up. You got to have a simple flow to sound good slowed, either that or sing. Z-Ro and Bone I feel sound pretty tight screwed up.

Yea Since Hawk And Screw Died It Seems Like SUC Aint What It Used To Be. I Remember When BiG Moe Came Out With That Hit "Barre Baby" And When DJ DMD With 25 Lighters , Everybody Was Chop And Screwin That Shit. I Also Remember When This Purple Drank And Shit Came Out. Thats When Niggaz Was Mixing Cough Syrup With Sprite.
