ja rule & lil wayne arrested blocks away on gun charges

Two Rappers Arrested On Gun Charges Following Separate Incidents
July 23, 2007

Two top selling rappers are to be arraigned in a Manhattan court today after being arrested in two separate incidents just blocks from each other.

Police say rapper Ja Rule – whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins – was arrested shortly after 10:30 last night on the Upper West Side after police pulled him over for speeding and having an expired registration.

Police say two 40-caliber handguns were found in his car. The rapper and two other passengers were arrested.

Just one hour later, rapper Lil Wayne – whose real name is Dwayne Carter – was picked at 61st Street and Columbus Avenue. Police say Carter was arrested after police saw him and another man smoking marijuana near a tour bus.

Police say they also found a gun. Both were charged with criminal possession of a weapon
and marijuana.
