David Beckham and all his teams

Unread post by alexalonso » August 6th, 2009, 4:14 pm

I dont understand how David Beckham can play on so many professional soccer teams. He plays for MLS and I thought he signed a long term contract with them, then he starts playing for another team, then again another team. Is that why he is so rich, because this guy does not score many goals.

David Beckham isn't a goal scorer, Hes a play-maker.

Hes not the only player who does what he does, plays for a team for a few years then jumps at the money (Although before all the teams he played for Manchester United from early teens to his late 20's), It could be he just cant get settled at a certain team.

In most peoples opinions hes a VERY over-rated player, and hes well past his prime.

In my personal opinion i beleive LA Galaxy signed him for the image and to put their name out there to the masses for the most part, and get some shirt sales (I'm sure they rised when he signed), Beckham wont get a game for the national side either playing for LA Galaxy.

ho doesnt even show up to all the LA Galaxy games. i guess that signing didnt work out for the galaxy owners. The LA Galaxy is supposed to be a less talented team in a less talented league, but Beckham aint done nothing to advance the Galaxy pass the other teams. Have they made it to a championship?

I think Beckhams move to Galaxy was primarily a commercial one for the club.Beckham is a brand as much as a footballer, shirt sales and ticket sales went up when he signed.Nobody in Europe had heard of Galaxy until Beckham moved there. They are now the most well known team from the USA by a long way. Also Beckhams England career appearred to be over before he moved to Milan,i think thats why he moved to L.A in the first place.I do agree with jinky that he is a vastly overrated player.

overrated...maybe now but come on, a few years ago he was one of the best playmakers in the world with a knack for scoring important goals, real didnt pay £30m for nothing, AC are prepared to pay something in the region of £14m even now hes 35 and been playing in a pub league for the last season or 2.

David beckham signed just to boost the profile of soccer in the united states, he is still a very good soccer player, however he is way past his prime. His move to LA has boosted the profile of soccer, you are starting to see soccer as a main headline on ESPN where as of 5 years ago it was non-existant. Driving around LA I am seeing many new soccer fields around, which are always full. I believe in twenty years Soccer in the United States will be right there amongst American Football and Basketball!

David Beckham is a good start to legitimizing MLS in the eyes of the world. Its gonna be hard tho. (remember that Pele played in the U.S. too). The MLS is gonna make it when the league can successfully lure top talent away from Europe and into U.S. teams. The day they can get a player like Carlos Tevez in his prime or younger talent like Giovanni Dos Santos will be the day.

Recent rumors are saying Thierry Henry(Barcelona player) will be the next player to move the MLS.

if this geezers so past his prime why is he starting regularly for ac milan this season and theyre 2nd in serie a (one of the most competitive leagues in the world) still setting up goals etc, riddle me that one, alright hes lost a yard of pace but his game never predicated on fast running, skill and a good footballing brain, he turns 35 next month which is OLD for someone playing at that level in that position

So your taxs players for players in the states? Never heard that before.

These days with the big European clubs its some big Russian oil billionaire or some Arabian Prince who wants to play withs ome money who buys a team and spends ludacris amounts of money on players, just because they can.
