Dream Match Marvin Hagler vs Bernard Hopkins who would win?
Dream match Marvin Hagler vs Bernard Hopkins who would win?
This would be a very good match between two dominant Middleweights in there era and a hard one to call.
They both to me was very similar even somewhat in there boxing ability and both was tough and had excellent chin and can take the blows from the hardest punchers in there division and come back and win.
I would edge a bit to Marvelous Marvin Hagler by a split decision.
who is your pick ?

Yep I agree, Bernard Hopkins is one of the few that came or comes close, I would go with Hagler too.cliffard wrote:gotta go with hagler....why dont we get boxers like that nowadays
I wish Boxing was like it was in the 70's and 80's or even early 90's would be better than today.

Hagler didn't know how to stop punching. Hopkins would fuck up the fight cos, he'd be holding and tying up Hagler all night.cliffard wrote:gotta go with hagler....why dont we get boxers like that nowadays
I cant watch Hopkins fight, he is boring.

I feel Hagler would win against Hopkins, Hopkins is one of those fighters who fight at the level of his competition, if his competition is boring and lackluster than he can appear that way too, but when his competition is good than you can see the executioner at his best executing his competition. You got to give Bernard credit he is still going somewhat strong and competitive at around 41 42 years of age when most fighters and even the ones that was considered greater than he was retired around 35 or was no longer at the top level and Bernard is still in there, I still have to go with Hagler myself.SOUFLONDON wrote:Hagler didn't know how to stop punching. a draw, Hopkins too smart to get hit with a Hagler hook, and Hopkins not powerful enough to knock out Hagler. 6 rounds each.

@SouthPhillypuppet- I would never say that! Definately one of the greatest defensive boxers and ring tacticians of all time. However, Hagler was one of the greatest offensive boxers and ring tacticians of all time. He was relentless pressure at its best. I think that he would have eventually caught up with hopkins and because of his pressure would have outscored B. Hop.Two of the Best though, would have been a dream match for real.$outhPhillypuppet wrote:so yall gonna act like Hopkins not one of the greatest defensive boxers and ring tacticians of all time...

But bhop is also a very good counter puncher and he knows how to slow shit down to a more controllable pace.
If this fight was to happen it would probably hinge on hagler hitting bhop vs bhop catching hagler with a good counter punch.
I just think bhop catching hagler is more likely then hagler catching bhop.

have to say, b-hop is a hell of a fighter, to carry on at the very top not too far short of 50 years of age, the man is a legend...got to give it up to one of the only men who beat him as well - joe calzaghe - never gets the credit from us based boxing writers that he deserves, and before anyone calls me biased remember english and welsh are two different things...carl froch is another underrated fighter from that division...

Re: Dream Match Marvin Hagler vs Bernard Hopkins who would w
@ Clifford- Joe Calzaghe, definately a great fighter. Was underated for years! I think the reason he doesn't get the credit for defeating hopkins because it was late in Hopkins career. There was alot to talk about hopkins trying to fight Calzaghe years before and the Calzaghe camp declined. They ended up fighting in 08 and the fight was close. That's why I think he doesn't get the credit for being as good as he was. Froch is a good fighter. I watched him fight in the Showtime tournament. I think he is underated because he hasn't been a drag out, leave it in the ring type fight. His style is unorthidox and it appears that he is showboating, but he has excellent boxing skills.cliffard wrote:have to say, b-hop is a hell of a fighter, to carry on at the very top not too far short of 50 years of age, the man is a legend...got to give it up to one of the only men who beat him as well - joe calzaghe - never gets the credit from us based boxing writers that he deserves, and before anyone calls me biased remember english and welsh are two different things...carl froch is another underrated fighter from that division...

Both in their prime.....tough choice.
BHop is so smart and crafty this would be a good one. I would go with the Marvelous one though. He had power in both hands and was a straight brawler when he had to be. BHop would probably cause a head butt and get the fight stopped.

Like to add, Hagler could switch up, he was comfortable fighting in an orthodox or conventional stance, which I believe would give Hopkins problems.Coup wrote:Both in their prime.....tough choice.

Yall wrong for this one. Many of yall gave it to Hagler and I don't blame you. However Hopkins is probally the dirtiest fighter in the world and he too clever to just get caught in Hagler's onslaught. This fight would be a draw period.
Re: Dream Match Marvin Hagler vs Bernard Hopkins who would w
Yeah but Hagler was used to dirty fighters. Remember The Beast Mugabi and Hands of Stone Duran...they were dirty and Hagler touched them up.

Marvin Hagler record,
that's an impressive record. He lost 2 fights early in his career by descision, one was split, and then got robbed in the lost to Sugar Ray Leonard. Never been knocked out and basically undefeated. He retired too early at the age of 33. Probably could have boxed to 35 of 36 beating people between 1987 - 1989. Not sure who could have stopped during those threee years. Who was dominant at 160 lbs from 1987 - 1989?- won 62 (KO 52) + lost 3 (KO 0) + drawn 2
67 total fights, rounds boxed 398, KO% 77.61
Re: Dream Match Marvin Hagler vs Bernard Hopkins who would w
i was locked up when I seen the Hagler vs Sugar Ray leonard fight
everyone thought Marvelous Marvin won hands down ... Chicanos, Blacks, everyone...
.
I think he couldnt deal with that "loss" and just said fuck it... boned out to France and left it all behind

^^^Yep....I remember that shit like yesterday. I was a youngin but Hagler was always one of my faves. Leonard played mind games with him and stole? rounds in the last 20-seconds. Hagler just couldn't take the loss. He and Leonard had a rivalry going and he couldn't shake losing to that dude.
