They don't in Northern California. They barely recognize them. They know they're there, like they know Bin Ladin is there, but they don't leave their house watching over their shoulder for the Mexican Mafia. In LA, I don't know if black street gangs are afraid of the Mexican Mafia or not, but they do have to at least respect their existence. Surenos control a lot of areas in LA and therefore the Mexican Mafia has significant power there. Up here in N. California, Edward James Olmos might as well be the leader of the Mexican Mafia. They're insignificant up here until people go to prison, obviously.

Blacks have no reason to fear the Mexican Mafia in jail or on the streets, because the Mexican Mafia does not have the authority over blacks as they do over mexicans, therefore the people who should fear the Mexican Mafia the most are other Mexican gang members. And since the Nortenos and the Surenos hate each other, it weakens the power the Mexicans would have it they were united so Blacks just watch them kill each other in prison.
