There are 300 million people in the country, compared to less than 2 million incarcerated. There are between 15,000 to 20,000 homicides every year in the streets, so I doubt very much that there are more killings in prison. I believe that Colorado Super Max has only had one killing since it opened in 2003.

And since the SHU came into full effect in California, in 1989, the number of stabbings and killings is much lower. Look at how many guards and COs have been killed over the years. The 60 and 70s over shadow any other period. Below is a list of all COs killed in the line of duty in CA and after 1989, there has only been two deaths that are considered murders.

Connie Prock was stabbed by two guys that became La Eme right after being found guilty for murdering Prock.
