It was alright. Liked the "jumping out" scene. But Robbie Benson? My god. Was Chachi not avalable?

Re: Good latino gang movies??
1. American Me -- Screw the factual errors. It's the best movie ever made about cholo life. Period.
2. Mi Vida Loca -- Underrated, undermentioned flick, because it's about chicks. If this film were about guys, there'd be 20 threads on it.
3. Boulevard Nights -- De La Paz = best cholo actor ever, as a kid, as an adult.
4. Blood In, Blood Out -- Producers chickened out in light of American Me drama and opted to use hardly any real actors or consultants, which left Benjamen Bratt on his own to play a cholo, without coaching. Yikes. Guy who plays Cruz later ends up in photograph with NF members.

Re: Re:
There is no real gang names in the movie. Mr. Benson played someone that was in a gang called "los Aztecas" & they were from Venice.NewMission wrote:Silencioso wrote:You're forgeting the two grand daddy cholo movies!

..........................................................................................
They used a few real one for the back ground from where I grew up ^^^ in EAST LOS
Draga
Chucky (the one who pulled out the shot gun on the hill)
Travieso
A few others
Even the lil kid, Juanito, who OD'd in the movie... is my homeboy - M*** from THE LOTT 13 Tiny Dukes
I know the guy who was offered the position of lead role, he was a straight real one, had just paroled from Y.T.S. – had the “look” big time
But he fucked up cause he started using drugs and became unrealiable
That’s when they went with Benjamin Bratt

Re: Good latino gang movies??
A lot of good ones here, keep em coming!
Re: Good latino gang movies??
Duke of Earl
Blood In Blood Out
Boulevard Nights
American Me
Walk Proud
Mi Vida Loca
NOT Havoc (wack ass white boy movie)
NOT Harsh Times (kind of cool but Bale as a chicano doesnt work.)
NOT 187 (are you fuckin serious??)
NOT Carlitos Way (not a chicano fillm at all but still good)
NOT Livin the Life (wack ass amateur flick, might as well said El Mero or whaterever low budget ass movie Damian Chapa just made or some Dungeon Familia straight to DVD BS)
Pretty good prison flick that just came out is Felon with Val Kilmer and some kinda familiar whiteboy.
For the record, some idiot here kept mentioning Duke of Earl was based on SanJo and filmed there too.... i got news for you... White Fence is an LA varrio.. not a San Jo pigtown. If the film was made in San Jo why is White Fence placced up in the underground scenes? Soto St? all these SS gangs are the graffiti in the background NOT San jo.
Where in the flick is White Fence? On the scene where the first vato from 14th starts chiming in how they arent into the movement and the only way to get out of the gang is down in a box. Right behind him on the stone pillars.....
Duke of Earl was filmed in LA and its based on LA life. Get it straight.
Other than the misinformation on Duke of Earl i do enjoy reading all the lists here.

Re: Good latino gang movies??
Duke of Earl was shot both in SJ & LA, so sorry if I was the 1 who didn't make that clear. Also San Jo very much is in the film, but it may be hard for some to notice. Duke himself said it was a fictional story, cuzz I asked him. Rumors were it was based on San Jo, but it's not & would not have to be shot in SJ to be based on it either.jaundice wrote:Duke of Earl

Re: Good latino gang movies??
So who's the idiot? Don't be so quick to assume shit & talk it. Who are you any way? Coming up in here & venting on me in your 1st post, cuzz I'm sure I'm the only 1 who mentioned Duke of Earl actually being shot in SJ. You remind me of a fake as bitch putting up that she claims EL RUKN, but really seems confused about things like you. Also why did you have to mention my town is a pigtown? I'm sure LA has more.jaundice wrote:Duke of Earl

I got to go with the classic Boulevard Nights , I can watch it again and again.
It is cool how it takes you back into Latino gang life in the 1970's and how LA was back in the 1970's
