72 Year Old Store Owner Shot in the Head During Robbery

LOS ANGELES -- The 72 year old owner of a 98 Cent Store in downtown Los Angeles was clinging to life Tuesday after being shot in the head during a robbery.

The robbery and shooting happened around 4:10 p.m. Monday outside the store on Venice Boulevard and South Hoover street.

The three suspects, all gang members according to police, walked into the store and demanded money.

Police said the store owner was likely shot trying to resist one of the suspects.

Surveillance video shows one of the suspects pulling a gun from his waistband and firing a round at the store owner, hitting him once in the back of the head, according to Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Joe Losorelli.

The man was on life support at a local hospital late Monday night.

Police said the victim's wife and two adult sons were in the store at the time. The wife was at the front counter with her husband and witnessed the shooting.

The sons were in the back of the store. They heard the shot and came out to find their father on the ground.

The three suspects remained on the loose. They were last seen running away on foot.
