Im not defending Nazis but those youth groups were Hitlers attempt at raising more soldiers for his cause, I dont think they really knew that at that young....

But yes, it was kind of a preparation for being a soldier and many totalitarian government had such youth organization. Soviet Union (Komsomols),



East Germany (FGY/Free German Youth or FDJ/Freie Deutsche Jugend)

etc. They were all kind of paramilitaric youth organizations. I had a friend from East Germany and his parents didnt want him to join them and were there for interrogated and thrown into jail by the east german intelligence service.

Don't most countries today still have some form of kiddie armies? Cadets, and what not? I mean not to the extent of a Nazi Youth, but it's still the same process of getting you ready to join the military the second you're old enough.

and although the catholic church did cooperate in many ways with the nazis in WWII. the catholic church also saved thousands of jews from death at the hands of the nazis-so it is not a simple issue of all bad/all good as some of you seem to want to make out of EVERY issue-as in:

A note about the catholics "collaborating" with the nazis, ands the shock inspired by the photos posted on here-in any european country that was occupied by the germans during world war II, photos can be produced of not only catholics, but all protestant groups and their clergy, and moslem clerics, shown hobnobbing with the hobnailed boot boys-it seems that the nazis had some penchant for these types of occasions and photos-i gess the "photo op" is older than we think!
In Croatia, photos of catholic, protestant, orthodox and moslem clerics gatehred with the nazi bosses and the coratian fascist ustashi are easy to come across-and again, on and on it goes, across europe-i guess nobody wanted to be left out of being in the good graces of the bosses-after all, the punishment for falling out of grace was not a pleasant one!

abc12345, i wish i knew what country you speak of-you say socialism was "for the people," and the "people were happy." I dont think that would be the case with most of the socialist countries-you HAD to work at jobs they picked for you for shitty pay; consumer goods were shitty; food was shitty; and you had to stand in line for hours to get it! all men were conscripted into the army; in the case of ussr, you had to fight and get killed in ag=fghansitan and chechnya to "liberate the workers," (afghanistan had very very few industrial workers . . .) doesnt sound like a recipe for happy people to me!
