Most Mexicans have "sangre de indio" indian blood running thru their veins, only 2% of the population is categorized as "white" pure spaniards, with no indian blood. There were estimated to be 20 million natives in Mexico prior to the arrival of the Spaniards, then after the conquista, after the slaughter, enslavement, disease epidemics brought on to our people, there remained only 1 million left, and in time also for the most part mixed with the European blood.

Sorry I sidetracked the topic, couldn't help puttin' in some Mex' background.

SEMINOLES= WHO HAVE THE REAL INFO ON SEMINOLES.

I HEAR AND READ THAT THE SEMINOLE TRIBE WAS STARTED BY AFRICANS FROM THE SOUTHERN SEA ISLANDS AND RENEGADE INDIANS(NATIVES).

OTHERS TRY TO SAY THAT INDIANS ADOPTED AFRICANS INTO THEIR TRIBE.. AND THEY BECAME THE BLACK SEMINOLES!

ANY INFO?

During early slavery around the 1700's runaway slaves were adopted into some the Native American camps. during that time at earlier Native Indians were being forced into slavery as well, so the Africans ran away with them since they knew the land. Some Africans even took up with Indian wives. I can't remember exactly what tribe...i'll post that later.

There were even half-black or black chiefs of Indian tribes. The chief that founded the settlement that is today known as Millwaukee was the son of a black slave and a native woman...

Seminoles were the last indian tribe to fight agaist the U.S. government for their land. Many ended up leaving the Florida swamplands (the land they reside on), as the U.S. army continued to push them from their lands, moving west, some ending up in Mexico. There are many blacks in the Seminole nation. The seminoles accepted runaway slaves and free black maroons into their nation, as they wer both two oppressed groups. Anyway, the maroons and seminoles put up a valiant fight against the government but in the end the gov. one.

BUT IF THEY CAME TOGETHER AND FORMED A TRIBE IT DOES NOT SOUND CORRECT THAT THEY ADOPTED AFRICAN SLAVES INTO THEIR TRIBE IF THEY CREATED TOGETHER FEEL ME.

THIS IS WHAT I FOUND:

http://www.coax.net/people/lwf/pc_sym.htm

Penn Center recently learned of a people called "Black Seminoles" whose ancestors were Gullah slaves who escaped from South Carolina and Georgia plantations into the Florida wilderness. There, they joined with various groups of renegade Indians to form a new tribe - the Seminoles -- from a Spanish word meaning "wild," "free," or "untamed."

After a series of bitter conflicts with American military forces in Florida, the Black Seminoles and their Indian comrades moved West in the 1830s, ultimately settling in what is now Central Oklahoma, West Texas, and Northern Mexico. These scattered communities still exist today and, amazingly, still preserve the Gullah language and many cultural traits reflecting their Gullah roots in South Carolina and Georgia

http://www.bjmjr.com/west/black_seminoles.htm

The Black Seminoles have been known by a number of names. Historically they
have been called Seminole Negroes, Indian Negroes, Seminole Freedmen and
Afro-Seminoles. Today, in Mexico they are called Mascogos, in Oklahoma -
Freedmen, and in Texas they will often just go by the term Seminole.
