Suspect Car In Richmond Highway Shooting Found

POSTED: 4:20 pm PST January 12, 2007
UPDATED: 8:29 pm PST January 12, 2007

PINOLE -- The suspect car in an apparent road rage-related highway shooting in Richmond Thursday evening has been found abandoned near Pinole, a Richmond police lieutenant said Friday.

The 2007 silver Nissan Murano was found in an unincorporated area of Contra Costa County, Lt. Enos Johnson said. The car has paper plates with the letters J and A but further details were unavailable because of the ongoing investigation, he said.

One of two shooting victims, a 23-year-old Sacramento man who was test driving a car on Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond when the shooting took place, remains in critical condition with gunshot injuries to the head, according to police.

According to Richmond police Sgt. Allwyn Brown, the victim was out on a test drive with a salesman from a local car dealership at about 5:30 p.m. when the driver of a Nissan Murano pulled up alongside the victim's car and shot the man in the head.

The shooting appeared to have been prompted by the driver of the test vehicle honking at the Nissan driver in reaction to being cut-off at a high rate of speed, police said. The Nissan driver was last seen leaving the freeway at the McBryde Avenue off-ramp.

After being shot, the victim lost control of the dealership-owned vehicle before crashing and overturning in the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes near the McBryde Avenue off-ramp, according to police.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center and later airlifted to John Muir Medical Center, police reported. The salesman from the dealership, who was riding in the passenger seat of the test-vehicle, was transported to Doctors Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Another Richmond Shooting May Be Linked To Road Rage

POSTED: 12:02 am PST January 16, 2007

RICHMOND -- Richmond police are investigating a shooting in broad daylight that occurred Monday afternoon when two men in a van shot at and injured one of three passengers in a car in Richmond, Lt. Mike Gormley reported.

The shooting occurred around 5:38 p.m. in the 12500 block of San Pablo Avenue, Gormley said.

According to police, it all started with near-collision involving a black Lexus coupe and a white full-size Chevy or GMC van. Two men described as Latino then followed the Lexus until a male passenger in the van fired nine shots at the Lexus.

The man driving the Lexus and the female front-seat passenger escaped unharmed, but the man riding in the back was struck and sent to a local trauma center where he remains in serious but stable condition, Gormley said.

Police described the suspects' vehicle as having custom chrome rims and a chrome rim on the van's rear door. The driver was wearing a dark baseball cap and the passenger had a long ponytail, Gormley said.

Monday's incident follows Thursday's apparent act of road-rage on Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond that resulted in a shooting of a Sacramento man who was testing a car from a local dealership.

Crazy stuff, I read about it. Pays to brush off road rage incidents, though we all know how hard that is when some knucklehead cuts us off!
