Victim's Girlfriend Describes Drive-By Fatal Shooting

A 20-year-old man who associated with Lincoln Park gang members was mortally wounded in 2006 after a car pulled alongside his BMW in Encanto and someone opened fire, the victim's girlfriend testified Monday.

Danielle Coleman, who was wounded but survived the shooting, testified as a preliminary hearing got under way for Sirron Norris, 21, and Dominique Moss and Amon Dykes, both 20.

Norris and Moss are charged with murder and attempted murder in the shooting death of 20-year-old Curtis Howard and the wounding of Coleman the night of Feb. 26, 2006. Dykes is charged with killing a 17-year-old boy a month later.

Coleman, now 23, testified that she had her seat reclined the night that she and Howard were shot and didn't know there was a car following them until he swerved.

"I asked why he was showing off?" Coleman testified. "He just laughed."

When Howard pulled up to a stop sign on Radio Drive near his home and looked into his rear view mirror, he hesitated, prompting Coleman to raise up out of her reclined passenger seat.

"It looked like firecrackers were coming from his window," Coleman said.

After Howard was shot, he tried to push her down, then jumped up and put the car into reverse and made a U-turn, Coleman testified.

Howard drove a little way before collapsing, causing the BMW to run off the road and into a tree, she said.

Coleman said she was shot three times in the stomach and the legs. One bullet remains lodged in her right hip, she said.

San Diego police Sgt. Tod Bassett testified there were 10 bullet holes on the driver's side of the BMW.

He said Howard was shot four times, including in the right forearm, lower left chest and lower left abdomen.

After Norris and Moss were arrested, they were overheard in an interview room saying they had to get rid of the "click," and were also concerned about DNA and fingerprint evidence, Bassett testified.

The sergeant said Norris gave Moss guidance on keeping their alibis straight.

Another witness testified that Moss told him that "We lit them (expletive) up" a couple of days after Howard was killed.

The preliminary hearing -- which could last four days -- will continue tomorrow in the courtroom of Judge John Thompson.

Norris is charged in another case with murder in the death of a construction worker, who was shot during a fight at a skyline-area taco shop the night of June 30, 2005.
They were part of the Skyline gang, which is affiliated with the Piru Bloods. The second link below describes the crimes in more detail. I only went looking for these after I was dismissed.

These guys are young, and now they will spend the rest of their lives in prison.

Two convicted of murder, other gang-related crimes

SAN DIEGO COURTS: Two men accused of participating in a string of gang-related crimes, including two 2006 slayings in southeastern San Diego, were convicted yesterday of first-degree murder.

Sirron Norris and Dominique Moss, both 22, were also found guilty of several other charges, including attempted murder and discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle.

San Diego Superior Court Judge John Thompson scheduled a sentencing hearing for Dec. 18.

After deliberating for several days, a jury convicted Norris and Moss in connection with the Feb. 26, 2006, fatal shooting of Curtis Howard, 20, who prosecutors said was targeted because he was wearing a green shirt — a color worn by members of the rival gang.
