Livingston in Guatemala near Belize

Unread post by thesoulsedge » July 24th, 2003, 11:55 am

The major hood in Guatemala is a place called "Livingston". It's a English-speaking town that borders or nearly borders Belize. There are lots of blacks here, and they are mostly drug gangs. Livingston is on the eastern coast of Guatemala if you look on a map.

Thats BS, livingston is the safest part of Guatemala, yes they are all black people but they're laid back and smoke weed like rastas, livingston is cool., Guatemala had the highest homocide rate in the americas in 2002, the worst areas are the city where mara 18st and ms13, they control the slums there, and when these gangs go at it they fight with machetes, its really crazy down there, also a town called escuintla has gangs.

u know what? all the towns down theree have gangs. every little village of 2000 people, with or without electricity has gangs. and yes, it's all about the machetes, but also home-made guns called "chimbas", which are just two pipes that slide together, one with a handle, n a bullet (one-shooter), make playland lethal. crack is taking over like a motha. olvida coca.. crack is on a verdadero rampage.
i gotta agree that Guate city is more dangerous.. it's larger n more sects got things moving, or even if nothing is moving, there's territorial madness bloddshed, igual que en MUCHOS partes.

i think this guy was talikin bout the hood of garifuna-land where the 5-o (la chota) is just an abstract concept, thus MORE lawlessness.. but it's a smaller scale.. n it won't find u unless u find it.

Gangs clash in Guatemalan jails

Hospitals say they are struggling to cope with the number of injured
At least 30 prisoners have been killed and more than 50 have been injured during battles between rival gangs in several prisons in Guatemala.
Hundreds of armed police and soldiers were deployed and fired tear gas to regain control of the prisons.

At least 18 of the inmates died during a fight at a prison known as "The Hole" in a town south of Guatemala City.

The gangs emerged in the US and later spread to Central America when their members were deported back home.

'Ominous warning'

The latest incidents are thought to have erupted after members of one of Central America's most notorious gangs, the Mara Salvatrucha, clashed with members of their main rival, Mara 18.

The gangs appear to have co-ordinated the fighting using mobile telephones, said Guatemala's Interior Minister Carlos Vielmann.

Officials said an array of weaponry - including knives, automatic rifles and hand grenades - had been smuggled into the prisons.

Some of the inmates were killed by gunshot wounds and hand grenade blasts - others were found with their throats cut.

The bloodiest fighting appears to have taken place in the "The Hole" prison in Escuintla town.

Witnesses saw corpses covered in the trademark tattoos of their gangs. Some bodies were said to have been mutilated.

Eight men were also killed in the Pavon correctional facility near Guatemala City, said the head of the country's prison service.

The BBC's Paul Keller, says the rioting is an ominous warning to the authorities in Honduras and El Salvador as well as Guatemala.

All are struggling to contain the activities of the maras, which are blamed for a wave of killings and robberies across the region.
