Hopefully someone started a petition to the governor on Tookies behalf he has been trying to change the game. Maybe he will get a pardon.

Redemption, starring Jamie Foxx will be playing at the Pan African Film Festival at the Magin Johnson Theatre in Los Angeles, Monday February 16 at 2:45 pm. Who plans to check it out? Maybe some of the forum members should get together and check it out and support the PAFF, for those who are in Los Angeles.

The movie is about Stanley "Tookie" Williams one of the co-founders of the Crips along with Raymond Washington.

I had the opportunity to see the film. The audience was comprised more of an older crowd (30+). After the long ass 15 minute Jamaica commercial and a short film about James Brown beating the devil they showed Redemption.
The movie was not really about his gang life and experiences. It gave a few tid-bits here and there but there was no detail. Instead they were focusing on his change and the good he is trying to do.
If you are thirsting for gory details and confirmation of some street legends you won't be getting it. If you are looking to find out how he went about writing books and getting involved then you will certainly find that.
I will keep this review short because I have to write an article for a publication on this. However, I will say this: The movie was fairly well done and probably pretty damn close to accurate. The PAFF showing previewed the unreleased copy so the film quality and sound was all off but if you can look past that the movie had a solid message and is worth seeing for the substance contained in it.

Sunday night it is . . . I'm going to be a watching too. His story is the only positive side of gang life . . . redemption. Sadly, it may only affect 1% of the gang youths and probably encourages more than discourages.

What did people think of this movie? I liked it it had a good strong message and it didnt glorify gang violence like I thought it was going to.

I think the movie was alright. Jamie Foxx pulled off as Tookie pretty well. The only thing is the movie didn't really show why Tookie started banging. How he founded the crips, and how the gang got so powerfull.

yeah, it had the feel of a part 2. Kinda like you missed the first hour or two of the movie. They spent 10 minutes on the first 40 years of his life, and an hour and a half on the last 5 years.
