Former minister Segev admits attempting to smuggle drugs
By Zvi Harel and Roni Singer, Haaretz Correspondents
Former energy minister Gonen Segev admitted Sunday morning to charges of attempting to smuggle some 32,000 ecstasy pills from the Netherlands and forging his diplomatic passport.
Segev, who had long refuted the accusations, admitted to the charges as part of a plea bargain under which he will get five years imprisonment and a $27,500 fine which will be transferred to the Israel Anto-Drug Authority.
Segev has been behind bars since his arrest in the Ben Gurion International Airport in April 2004 over involvement in an alleged international Ecstasy drug
smuggling scheme that Israeli and Dutch police said involved millions of shekels.
Segev and his two alleged accomplices, Moshe Verner and Ariel Friedman, were charged in May 2004 with plotting to smuggle drugs. Verner committed suicide by hanging himself in his prison cell last November.
Segev's attorneys tried to convince court that he was unaware of the contents of the M&M candy packets he had received from the Netherlands which he was supposed to import to Israel.
During his trial, Segev was also charged with attempting to fraudulently receive NIS 20,387 and with credit card fraud, all under aggravated circumstances.
Police expressed Sunday their satisfaction with the plea bargain.

Former LA gym owner arrested in drug money laundering case
Associated Press
LOS ANGELES - The federal government is seeking to extradite a South African game farm owner for his alleged role in an international Ecstasy ring, authorities said.
Police arrested Meir Elran, 38, on Friday in Johannesburg, South Africa. Authorities were acting on a U.S. arrest warrant issued last year, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
As part of a joint international undercover investigation into the alleged drug ring, authorities have seized more than 300,000 doses of Ecstasy, with a total street value of $7 million.
Elran, who formerly owned a gym in the Studio City section of Los Angeles, is the 14th defendant charged in the case, known as "Operation Money Man."
The Israeli national is accused of laundering the proceeds from the alleged sale of the drug. Investigators also allege he paid for at least two loads of the drug that were being brought into the United States, said ICE Agent Buckley Thomas.
"Elran and the others involved in this ring trafficked Ecstasy and laundered their profits through bank fraud and real estate transactions," said Loraine Brown, special agent-in-charge of ICE investigations in Los Angeles.
Elran left the U.S. for South Africa more than two years ago, according to Thomas, and now owns a $3 million game farm there. The investigation began in March 2002, when U.S. immigration officials received a tip that a group of mostly Israeli nationals were selling Ecstasy in the Los Angeles area.

thats a stupid law that if its true. considerin alchohol kills more ppl per user every year.WhiteBoy wrote:i maybe wrong, but i believe here in the US for every pill you are caught with, trying to sell, you are charged with attempted man slaughter. i think it may be acid/LCD also.
why them drugs tho n not heroin, etc?
its rare ppl die on ecstasy or acid... n fuckin millions a ppl world wide take them nearly every w/end.
It's 5 hits of LSD (what is LCD?) thats charged as attempted manslaughter on a fed level. They judge that particular drug by weight strangely enough, so crystal or liquid , which is much purer, actually yields less time than blotter (paper) since the paper weight counts even though thats only the delivery system. States sometimes go by dose/hits with paper, Fed goes by weight. I think it's 5 or 7 grams that equals a life sentence on the Fed level.
Kids fry on X all the time at raves, serotonin levels shot for life. It's very hard to od on acid, but people do stupid shit on it all the time. PCP is much worse. Heroin is a quiet scene & no one cares about junkies until a lot of them die at one time. Get High or Die Tryin' is the trade name of H thats tearin' up the East Coast currently.
over here in england they only cos u £1 or 2 which is about 2 or 3 dollarstysuave wrote:It depends on what kind thay are. meaning single, double or tripple stacks the most you will pay is 30$ and the least you'll pay for one pill is 10 - 15 $ but the avg price is 20 dollers.072Alkmaar wrote:how muts do you pay for 1 xtc pil in america?
thats bad that tho. ur allowed guns in U.S but u get a life sentance if caught with acid?Psilly wrote:It's 5 hits of LSD (what is LCD?) thats charged as attempted manslaughter on a fed level. Gonna say...I heard a doc on the radio a month back, about peeps in thier 40's who had taken bare pills back in their rave days in the late 80's - the researchers were interested in peeps who had had large doses of mdma over many weekends over many years before they had called it a day - on meeting the veteran e-takers, the majority were fine, living a variety of lives, the majority balnced and happy and none of the sample having mental health problems - some had had some difficulties with short term memory recall - and subsequently used lists to remember stuff, but overall, the consensus was that it is likely that the majority of peeps recover well from any damage mdma may have dome to seretonin receptors in the brain.
Personally, I've always had a soft spot for mdma - though I have been disciplined over the years - don't have more than one active dose a month - it used to be pills, but they got commercialised and many became duds or mixed up with contaminants (ie mda) so over the last years, its been a tickle of pure mdma crystal - that way, you know its gonna do what its supposed to do - I prefer a low to medium dose 'cos I like being in the drivers seat and having fun with it rather than being totally mash up, pulling faces and being a fuccin loved up idiot (like mdm,a, don't like peeps getting too loved up, its embarressing man!). I even enjoy the fucccin hangover! And no doubts, sex is always funky later on he he

I still remember way back in the early 80's when MDMA was legal. Guys that were moving to SoCal from Texas were buying it over the counter at bars with their credit cards there. This was pure pharmaceutical grade MDMA; something you are most often not going to be getting on the street today. The stuff on the street, I have read, is mixed with all sorts of stuff including LSD and PCP. They used to say that taking more of the pure MDMA didn't really do that much more for them when they took it and that MDMA was kind of strange that way. Haven't seen any of these guys in 20 years. I wonder if they ended up burn outs or like the study that Noog stated were able to go on with their life once it became illegal in 85.

Yeah you are probably talking about the STARK CLUB in Dallas. Back in the 80's this club was known to sell HUGE amounts of extasy straight over the counter, just like buying a beer.
