I don't know who told you that but they couldn't be more wrong. Drug trafficking is the largest money maker for Italian organized crime across the globe, including in Canada. It is the second largest money maker for the American LCN after illegal gambling. Of course, the Italians (as well as other crime groups) have always used the income from their illegal operations to invest and launder money into legitimate enterprises.

well yes and no the UN was using helicopters to smuggle there pot to the US. Not only were they smuggling there product but also other groups. Were the italians involved i dont know but i doubt it. Italians would be more likely to have smuggling ventures with the bikers since there ties go back a long time. Also the UN and bikers dont fully get along and alot of the biker high ups are italian so you be the judge

The main illegal activities the Italian groups in Vanouver are known for is illegal gambling and drug trafficking. One of the main legitimate businesses that Italian groups across the globe are involved is construction, so it's certainly possible the ones in Vancouver have interests in that.

As far as what you said about the Italians being legitimate, that's true in a way. They are more involved in legitimate businesses of all kinds than most other groups.

A young man arrested last year with a Vancouver condo full of explosives, land mines and machine guns was a major supplier to the United Nations gang, according to just-released court documents.

Jong Ca John Lee, 27, is now serving five years after pleading guilty to a series of gun charges.

But documents filed at his bail hearing show that police believe he was a major source of high-powered assault rifles, grenades and ammunition to the notorious UN gang, linked to a spate of deadly shootings across Metro Vancouver.

Font:****"This group is known for their use of violence, threatening and intimidation and lack of fear of law enforcement," says one of the police affidavits filed in Lee's case.

The multi-ethnic UN is also believed to be the gang that has targeted Abbotsford's three Bacon brothers for death, forcing an extraordinary public warning by police about the potential for violence.

The two youngest Bacons, Jarrod and Jamie, just secured bail in Surrey this week on 24 weapons charges of their own.

Meanwhile, UN leader Clayton Roueche is in a Seattle jail awaiting a drug trafficking trial next month.

Lee was so influential in the gang that he travelled with Roueche and UN member Kiet Kha to Vietnam for several days, the documents say.

The court papers show a surprising level of sophistication on the part of the UN gang since it first showed up on the radar of law enforcement in 2002.

"The gang originated from a group of high school friends in the Chilliwack/Abbotsford area," says one affidavit released Friday. "In the early days of the UN gang, they were linked to Asian organized crime.

"Today, the gang has links to outlaw motorcycle gangs, Indo-Canadian and independent organized crime groups as well."

The documents say the UN "has expanded into a highly structured organization, with loyalty being one of their main mottos."

"They are well-organized, with group members having distinct positions with related responsibilities. ... Members may conduct their own drug business with their own crew. Members may also contribute money to a criminal enterprise, thus sharing profits with other members."

Roueche shares leadership of the gang with Jing Bon Chan, who was arrested in a West End apartment last year on gun charges.

"As leaders they have significant power and influence among their membership," the affidavit says.

Following a domestic call to Chan's 23rd-floor Beach Avenue apartment in late 2005, police seized UN "gang paraphernalia, photographs and documents," including a group photo of about 60 gangsters and associates at a friend's funeral.

The number of actual gang members is believed to be more than 50, but police say that there could be as many as 300 UN associates.

"They are involved in marijuana grows and cross-border trafficking, extortion, threatening and kidnappings and have been linked to numerous homicides and shooting incidents throughout the Lower Mainland," the documents say.

"Intelligence indicates that the gang is involved in trafficking cocaine, heroin and crystal meth, as well as being actively involved in the production and exportation of marijuana."

The just-released court documents were sworn a year ago and refer to a number of 2007 shootings.

"Recent shootings and incidents in Vancouver involving the UN gang lead police to believe that they may be arming themselves in preparation for a conflict with other crime groups," says the affidavit of Const. Lisa Byrne, of the Vancouver police gang crime unit.

Byrne laid out a series of shootings in which UN members are believed to be the perpetrators or the victims.

n May 2005: UN member Douglas Vanalstine, who is also charged in the U.S. trafficking case but has not been extradited, allegedly shot a person with a handgun in Osoyoos.

n Feb. 24, 2007: Clayton Roueche and Jing Bon Chan are stopped by Vancouver police just a block from the Vancouver law courts at the scene of a double shooting.

"In this instance, two known associates of the gang were shot - one in the head and one in the leg. It is believed Roueche and Chan were there to 'interview the victims' in order to determine the gang's response to the shooting," the police affidavit said.

n May 3, 2007: UN associate Greg Allen was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by Vancouver police.

"Allen was found to have a loaded Glock 9mm handgun with an attached silencer in his waistband."

Lee's armoury, on the 21st floor of an apartment building at 1128 Quebec St., was found incidentally by Vancouver police when they got a 911 call to the apartment on April 26, 2007 and stumbled on the cache. A Nazi flag was hanging on the wall.

Until his arrest, Lee was not a known gang associate, police said at the time.

The documents also reveal the effort police agencies are making to gather intelligence on the fluid gang alliances.

VPD gang squad members attended a private New Year's Eve party in 2006 at the Plush Nightclub at 750 Pacific.

Officers "recognized many of the males in the private gathering or party as being members or associates of the UN gang," another affidavit says.

Roueche was at the party with Salih Sahbaz, who was kicked out of the club.

When police approached Sahbaz, they saw he was wearing "a diamond-encrusted ring with traditional Chinese characters on it."

He allowed VPD to photograph the ring.

The characters translate into the English language as "United Nations."

Just about every organized crime group in Vancouver is involved in drug trafficking, including marijuana. Oulaw Motorcycle Gangs and Asian (Chinese and Vietnamese) groups are the most prominent in the area.

we it comes to marijuana production the asians(vietnamese) are leading the pack. Theyre are many different asian groups operating in the lower mainland. They are not all one group like the bikers. As for the UN they a multi ethnic but the group is triad based. Marijuana is a huge resource for organized crime in canada and its growing and it will countinue to grow as we reside by the biggest consumer of marijuana. But other drugs are starting to get a foot hold in the country Ectasy/meth super labs are poping up all over the place. mainly hiding in northern communitys. Its a shame considering the effect these drugs have on are communitys.

It's funny, for every grow-op that they cops bust, another two pop up.
And definitely asians grow the most, it's not hard to get hydroponic equipment, nor is it hard
to set up a grow house.

The United Nations Gang, otherwise known as the UN is a gang based in British Columbia. They have become known for their reputation of extreme violence. Originating out of Chilliwack, Abbotsford, and Vancouver, the group is said to consist primarily of men in their mid twenties and thirties. The UN is believed to be behind much of the string of violent shootings involving gang members and associates throughout greater Vancouver in the past few years. Some have said the UN gang is a puppet gang of the Triad. The UN essentially maintains control of the drug trade in British Columbia[citation needed]. Un were hired mainly by the H.A. when they first formed but broke off all ties to then when the figured out the BC HA were to dis organized and thought they could do better on their own. They grew rapidly in recent years, and they H.A. not having anything to do with the group. taking over the downtown Vancouver eastside and other places.

Police have estimated the gang to have 50-100 members in the Lower Mainland area of BC, and they are rumoured to have branches in Mexico and Asia[citation needed]. As their name suggests, the gang is made of many nationalities, mainly Caucasian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Iranian and Indo-Canadian's

The alleged leader of the United Nations is Clayton Roueche[citation needed]. Roueche grew up in Chilliwack, BC, and later moved out to Abbotsford, BC and then to Vancouver. Roueche had an obsession with martial arts and strong-armed his way onto the drug scene. He forced people to do business with the UN. Roueche himself was known for having a taste for expensive homes and vehicles. Last August, he bought a 13th-floor Coquitlam condo for $443,000[citation needed]. Then in September, he signed a five-year lease on a 2006 BMW 750IL[citation needed]. In February, he leased a 2006 Maserati Quattroporte[citation needed].

Roueche was the first ever Caucasian to be initiated into the Triad. This was just after Roueche's marriage to a high-level Triad member's niece. Recently, Roueche was flying to Mexico when he was arrested and the plane was stopped in Texas. During the sting he was arrested for conspiring to possess cocaine, conspiring to export cocaine and conspiring to launder money. If convicted Mr. Roueche faces up to 220 years in prison and 8 million dollars in fines. Arrested in Texas on May 19, Roueche is expected to be flown back to Seattle to answer to the charges. When Roueche was arrested he was wearing official UN insignia jewelry. He is also charged with exporting almost 1000 kilograms of marijuana into the United States. There are currently warrants out for eight other UN gang members and more are expected.

Jong Ca John Lee is believed to have supplied the gang with guns until Vancouver police raided his downtown apartment on June 9, 2007. Lee, who had no criminal record, pleaded guilty in September, 2007 to 10 counts, including possession of a dozen guns, some loaded and some with defaced serial numbers, including automatic and semi-automatic rifles, and almost two dozen magazines of ammunition. Lee also pleaded guilty to possession of 3.5 kilograms of ecstacy (worth $400,000) for the purposes of trafficking, 900 grams of marijuana, a Panther stun gun, a silencer and three stolen Canadian passports obtained through a home invasion. He was sentenced to five years each on two of the weapons charges and two years on each of the other charges, to be served concurrently.

Some say the UN gang was founded as an international gentleman's club. There is official jewelry, hats, t-shirts and pocket knives. Some of clothing simply says, "We don't give a fuck". There exists a rule book with principles that members who are also referred to as "soldiers" are suppose to stand by which are honor, loyalty and respect. Members wear two golden rings on their middle finger to symbolize the "We don't give a fuck attitude" as one band says "UNITED" and the other says "NATIONS". The gang sign for the UN gang is a sideways middle finger. They also have different rings to reward different things. Utilizing the Buddhist system members must first wear a string and then beads upon initiation. UN gang members are known to wear designer hooded sweatshirts and clothing, fancy jewelry, and often have dragon tattoos. They are involved in the weapons and drug trade and have had clashes with the Hells Angels in recent years. Known UN rival gangs are the Independent Soldiers and Hells Angels.

Originally the gang was primarily fighting with the Hells Angels and even had a famous battle in Abbotsford, BC at the Animals bar. This fight was called "World War Three" as they battled bikers and beat up the police on the way out. Later the Hells Angels became associates and respected their turf and even shared business with them. It is rumoured the reputed leader of the Big Circle Boys gang was taken out by the UN. When United Nations members die they have a special UN tomb stone that features the letters "UN" across it and hold a Buddhist based ceremony over them. On May 8, 2008, former Hells Angels member and UN gang member Duayne Harvey Meyer, 41, nicknamed D.W., was executed and there was funeral held on May 15, 2008. Full patch members of the Hells Angels and UN gang members were at the funeral, with news stations and police agencies on hand to videotape all visitors. Pictures of a UN tombstone and members of the United Nations gang can be found in the "WestCoast News" section of the Vancouver Sun dated June 12, 2008.

A warning was put out at the beginning of June, 2008 against associating with James Kyle Bacon, 22, and his brother Jarrod Wayne Bacon, 25, on account of credible death threats by the UN gang targeting the pair, other family members and associates

Estimates vary. One of the larger numbers thrown around is 6 billion, which would make it one of the largest industries in BC, both in terms of cash and people employed.

It's all split. I'm pretty sure Viet organized crime just grow/make drugs and sell them whole sale, I don't think they get into gang violence and that stuff, strictly business. Young viet people however join street gangs involved in drug trade and they are extremely violent. The Chinese ,Triads and Big Circle, are one of the key players in Vancouver. The Chinese are into almost every crime such as racketeering and drug trafficking, as well as smuggling. But with my knowledge and opinion I'd say the Chinese and Outlaw Biker Gangs such as hells angels run BC. But many smaller gangs such as Independent Soldiers and Red Scorpion control much of the street level distrubution. The United Nations gang controls alot of street level distrubution and are believed to have worked as associates for the Triads and Hells Angels in the past are now becoming more sophisticated and becoming more organized. There is also a new gang in Surrey that originated with the juvenile "Surrey Boyz" beef with Vancouver boys. This gang that I won't name came into the drug trade with the help of Red Scorpion

What information do you have on Eastern Europeans in Vancouver?
According to the Provincial Police report of June 2005, there are a total of 9 EEOC groups active within the Province, with most located outside of the lower mainland.

"East-European Organized Crime (EEOC) – by contrast with ICOC groups, EEOC
activity is comparatively low-profile for reasons of language, international mobility, and
choice of criminal activity. EEOC groups within BC are, however, associated with
sophisticated and occasionally extremely high-value financial criminal activity, including
card frauds and identity theft, money laundering, and immigration-related crimes. The
challenge of investigating such groups is enhanced due to linguistic barriers, the
sophistication of EEOC actors, and the national and international mobility of the principal
players."

The EEOC scene seems to be dominated by Russians, Romanians, Poles and Hungarians.

Reading through the RCMP and CSIS reports I've seen from recently(2005 onwards), I've seen no specific mention of Albanians other than as part of the overall grouping of EEOC. Asians seem to be fairly involved in the drug trade, as well as the Bikers taking a top spot as well.
