Kings' Webber Traded to 76ers

Kings forward Chris Webber was traded from Sacramento to the Philadelphia 76ers late last night as part of a six-player deal.
The 76ers sent Brian Skinner, Kenny Thomas and Corliss Williamson to the Kings for Webber, Matt Barnes and Michael Bradley. The deal comes one day before the NBA trading deadline.
76ers President Billy King was looking to make a deal to improve the Philadelphia front court as they make their playoff push. The 76ers are 26-27, a half game behind Boston for first place in the Atlantic Division.
Kings General Manager Geoff Petrie had been shopping Webber, who has three years and about $62 million left on his contract. The Kings are 34-20 and are 7 1/2 games behind Phoenix in the Pacific Division.
King insisted he wouldn't part with any of his prized nucleus of young players to make a deal and he didn't have to.
Thomas had fallen out of favor with first-year 76ers coach Jim O'Brien, while Skinner was a free-agent bust. Williamson was a valuable sixth man off the bench, but none of them have the pedigree of Webber.
Damn. Sixers just got better if not good. Looks like their championship bound. As for the Kings, what the hell were they thinking? IMO, they just went from the top 5 teams in the Western Conference to the bottom or the fight for the last playoff spot.

Re: Chris Webber traded to the Sixers
the Kings were tired of C-Webb and just wanted playmakers. As for Philly, they will win their JV division.

Sacramento said they wanted to start over again-rebuilding. But I do not know how trading C Webb for scrubs is rebuilding. Maybe they just want salary cap so they can sign a young star. It's going to take a while for them to rebuild.

Re: Chris Webber traded to the Sixers
It has more to do with a combination of Webber's age and injury-laden knee. IT's been hurting Web during the past four seasons and the Kings were probably getting sick of retooling their lineup because of that.
The kings are about 21-4 without Webber.

Iverson and Webber will never overtake Shaq and Wade in the East. Excellent trade for the Sixers nonetheless.
