63 or 64 Impala

Unread post by alexalonso » February 5th, 2004, 2:33 pm

During the mid 1980s the 6Tray and 6FOur where the most sought after lowerriders to get, especially if it was a rag. There were those that would hook up an Ace, or a 59 cat eyes, 6duece, 65 and 66 with the straight retangular lights in the back, and even the 1970 with the round lights in the metal bumper, but it seems as if the 64 is slightly more sought after than the 63. West coast rap makes mention more to the 64 than any other car.

There is no doubt that the Impala is just a great body design, but what precisely makes the 64 the car?

QVo. I just dont think the "64" is the car. I think alot of it has to do with fools rapping about "six foes" and all that crap. I think the best Impala body hardtop has to be the 61 Bubbletop. Now thats a car there, with the 62 coming in a close second. Dont get me wrong, I like all Chevys. 39s,38s,51s,52s,53s,54s,s57s,60s etc etc etc, but Chevy really busted out with the 51/52 rag and the 61/62 rag. PERFECTION. I have a 62 hardtop right now and will be selling it soon. It was a daily for a while but using it as a daily is hell. In the past I have had another 62, 64 Malibu SS, 65 Malibu SS, 63 Nova rag, 54 Belair 210, 50 Chevy Pickup 3100 etc etc etc. Ive only had one rag and that was the Nova slammed on wires. Eventually hope to get another rag either 51/52 or 61/62. Ground up restoration, the real deal. Gotta make that feria first LOL. Peace

Probally between 7000-9000. When its done it will have brand new NOS Factory Interior from head to toe. The paint is about 2 years old, True White. All rust has been removed and replaced. Had front end redone (ball joints, Upper and Lower A arm bushings, Coils) Factory numbers matching 327 w/ powerglide. Nice sytem (Sony CD head unit, Pioneer 6x9, Alpine amp, Kenwood Box) I hope to have it doen by summertime. Peace

I think it's like Gibby said, those models (especially the '64) blew up so much because of rappers talkin about em in their songs so much. My personal favorite is the '58 Impala Sport Coupe, those motherfuckers are just too damn clean.

I spoke to some guys who were lowriding in the 1970s and they showed me pics of mostly 6Trays and 6Fours and they were lowriding in 1975. I think the rappers started rapping about what the streets were doing. Not the streets popularizing what the rappers were talking about.

Right, but check it, when do you see cats talking about Bel Airs, Deluxes, Rivieras, Caprices etc etc etc now??? Only those who are not into the fad but really into the culture. These youngsters see rap videos and wanna be like that. Thats why theres a million silly Nelly looking fools today.63s,64s were popular back then, but not the most popular. Back in the 70s alot of guys were into old Chevy Trucks, Bombs, Malibus, and especially Riveras and Caprices. I think the early to mid 70s Riviera and Caprice were as popular as the 63 and 64 today. The populariy of the 64 rose greatly since the late 80s when rap blew up,while the pouarity of other diminished. Its cool though, more 51/52 verts for me

I know you like facts, but this is my opinion- In the rap game, one person makes mention of something and it spreads like wildfire, especially the out of town (Wanna be L.A. street thugs) rappers. Like DJ Quik said, "Claiming Sixties and never even seen the Shaw!" And so I would GUESS Ice Cube had Eazy E rap about "My 64" and it began there.

Personally, I like the 63 better. I kept my brothers 63 rag, and I had a 64 rag, we also had a 62. I loved my 64, clean ass h e l l but my favorites would be the 51 and 61 rags.

SIX-4! 64 IS POPULAR FOR SOME REASON. I WOULD THINK THAT WHEN HYDRAULICS COULD MAKE YOUR CAR BOUNCE, 64'S MAYBE WERE THE THING. MAYBE THEY WERE COMMON ONCE UPON A TIME? THEY SAY HYDRAULICS WERE ALWAYS BEST IN CHEVY'S. I PERSONALLY WOULDN'T WANT THE MOST COMMON CAR, SO IN AN IMPALA I WOULD GO WITH SOMETHING ELSE, LIKE A '58 MAYBE.

I know for my Cali brothers the Impala's is what's happening. I'm from the South, and I would roll the 68' or 69' Buick Electra 225-( Deuce and a Quarter) Convertible.
