I Guess the street signs are more artistically done with stylish lettering.
LOL although we got new street signs too lol.Still a basic street sign with block lettering plus our district Florence-Firetone in handwriting above the street name.Se we're moving on up too lol

Handwriting? WOW! That's wild. Ours are the basic block style as well. In your opinion which city is wilder, LA or Vegas?

I think both LA and Vegas are wild in their own ways.Ive never been to Vegas. But from what Ive heard and Seen everybody goes there to let loose and unwind. My Sister lives there about 4 miles from the strip and they got buses that run 24/7 to the casino's.I guess she goes quite often because she knows the damm bus schedule more or less by heart lol.

Good link, looks like Echo park has a fairly big white population, I though it would have been all hispanics..

Lots of hispanics classify themselves as white. And there's alot of White / European Hispanics.

Echo Park from the resident :P

I work with a lotta youth. Looking at Belmont HS statistics, over 80% of all students speak spanish at home. That should give you some idea of how latino it is over here. We also have a lot of Vietnamese & Filipino. Lately, there have been some more whites and blacks. But is NOTHING like the west side or even parts of Pasadena etc.... sometimes I go into a store in those parts and get a little creeped out by how many whites I see. You go to a store out here and you will see that 70-90% of the store is full of latins.

Personally, this is what I am comfortable with. The street I grew up on, everyone was from Michoacan Mx, Cuba, Puerto Rico, & El Salvador etc. So for me, it is home.

FYI I have NOTHING against whites, I have plenty of white friends. But I more comfortable in the mix.

Generally thats what it means, but in the US they class people from spanish speaking backgrounds as hispanics, so they would class a Spanaird in the Census as a hispanic, but it says Hispanic or Latino.
Latino meaning peoples from Latin America.
In Echo park under White Alone its around 39.5%, this includes whites that are not Hispanic or Latino as well as other races who may be white for example, Russian,Armenian,Serbian, Italian or Portuguese.

Ive never been to echo park when I was in LA, whats it like, is it a fairly safe neighbourhood??

i still have no clue what those categories mean.

white alone-means any type of white?
white alone-not hispanic or latino-means whites from spain or portugal?

can someone clear this up?

White Alone - means any person who classes themselves as white. Some hispanics class themselves as white too so they are included. You would also have all the new white immigrants in this category like Armenians, Russians and Serbs.

White Alone non hispanic or Latino - is strictly white Americans who are not either hispanic or Latino. This would be an American whose heritage is most likley Eurpoean.

When looking at these stats I would just look at White Alone figures as this represents all people who class themselves as white.

I've been to L.A. plenty of times in the past few years, partly due to film classes I've taken down there.

I don't know much about the real estate, but I can tell you this; I stayed at a Motel 6 off of the 60 Freeway in the summer of 2000 for one night. The place wasn't that bad. There were a lot of tourists there, and it was clean.

I stayed there again while driving back from Arizona a few months ago. It's a ghetto now. I slept with one eye open, watching my car. There were gang bangers hanging out in the parking lot on the back side of the building. All night long tweekers were running in and out of units. You could hear their conversations about meth taking place. They didnt' care.

What does it mean when a motel goes from nice to crap in 4 years time? UNAFFORDABLE HOUSING.

It trickles down.

The Rich cut back.

The semi Rich move from the hills to the suburbs.

The middle class moves from the sub-urbs to the city.

The poor move from their houses in the city to the f**king motel.

Simple as that.

My advice for anyone planning to move to L.A.? Wait till Democrats get back in the white house in '08! Lol. Or wait till you win the lottery.

Is everybody moving out of Los Angeles? If so why? I think that crime is down all over the country because if you look at numbers in the late 80's early 90's there were a LOT more homicides than now.

What exactly was the Sunnyside gang? Did it really exist?

Was it white, black, hispanic?

Just wondering.

I don't think it was an Asain gang.

I heard it mentioned at the very end of the song Ghetto Star by Tupac off the better days cd. The VERY end of the song.

And I was watching an old episode of cops when they went to LA and there was a tag on a wall that said "Sun-side" or "Sunny-side".

I just thought it was interesting.

in 2013, a 1 Bed Room apartment is $1,000 - $1,400 in most areas. In the hood / varrio you can find a 1 Bedroom for about $850 - $950 if you can handle a smaller apartment in a place that has higher crime.
