Be POSITIVE in your community

Unread post by NW10 » November 11th, 2005, 4:28 am

The media really pisses me off. Why is it everytime a youth falls victim to gunshot, everytime a drug bust is made, everytime a disturbance occurs the media are straight into bitch mode "another shooting as residents walk in fear" "armed patrolls for no-go area" etc....

Living in these communities people on the outside always seem to have a lower opinion of you. Weary of you because you live in a certain area, treating you as an outsider. All because of the media portrayal.

People judge you like your a lower class but most of them in fact 99% of them have never been to your area, grown up there or lived there. The only thing they know about your neighbourhood is what the media tells them.

Why should people in our communities suffer this type of discrimination called addressism because of the badness of a minority in our community. They talk about us as if there is no hope no future yet people cannot be moved from my area. Why do you think that is?

You ask an outsider and they say "they must be stupid or criminals" ?!?!? what the fuck do they know. What the media tells them is what they know.

We have community groups and centre's here helping young children, we persevere with them keep their minds set on what their good at. We have children here with real talent and real ambition plagued by the detrimental image of their neighbourhood. Even the youths involved with the gangs have their own ambitions and goals. People are genuine they are good people we may not have what the so-called better neighbourhoods have but we do have a real "COMMUNITY", its real.

We need to be positive in our communities and make sure are youth can reach their potential, achieve their ambitions and certainly make sure that they are not deterred by the media portrayals that bring such discouraging images to our community.

Dont let them make you believe your growing up in an area with no hope or future: THERE IS HOPE AND THERE IS A FUTURE

FUCK THE MEDIA FUCK THE GOVERNMENT AND ANYONE WHO DOUBTS IT

I definately agree with your perspective, media portrays negative facts and less positive images.

Media should instead expose the positive sides of a troubled neighbourhood, like types of goals that have been accomplished by the community. Examples for a healthy community would be to volunteer, metoring, after school programs, gather up the community and open up programs for the youths. The goal would take the kids off the streets and positive sunstitutions to their times.

the media is nothing but propaganda. In a nice neighborehood theyll say that there was a shooting but in the ghetto no because it accurs on a daily baisis. The news has always bad news ,they show you something grimmy whit a sad pitch voice and then switch to weather and say its going to be a sunny week whit all a happy voice. There basicly manipulating your feelings. Its ben almost a year that i did watch tv i just use to play 360
