GIA is a terrorist gang..

But in algeria they are Algerian Mafia who the got conections with la cosa nostra in sicily.. No thugs just a mafia.

All the thugs of algeria are in france..

In algeria it's very cool but in some place you can be killed very quicly by GIA
If you go in the touristic cities thats very cool!

The Mafia in Algeria is called "El Bandilla" (The Bandits in Arabic) and they got ties with the Cosa Nostra in Sicily but also with some french crime families in Marseilles, Paris, Lyon and Strasbourg. They also maintain a close contact with a lot of inner cities projects crews in France. But El Bandilla don't mix with crews from Morrocco and Tunisia since they closed their borders with Algeria.

Tuco's answer :

Yes, it could be al bandilla. But phonetically, the pronounciation is the same since in arabic a lot of words are very close to spanish. For example, a lawyer in spanish is "Abogado", in arabic it's "Bogado", a shirt in spanish is "camisa", in arabic it's "camija", and so on...

But the word "Bandilla" can also be spelled bandiia. Since in arabic we got our own alphabet, the spelling, in phonetic translation, can change very often in latin alphabet...

I hope it answered your question...
