K-SWISS on the west coast

Unread post by alexalonso » March 29th, 2005, 1:38 am

During the mid 1980s the White on White K-Swiss were the shoe to wear in LA among many youth. Then they came out with the red stripe and blue stripe K-Swiss. I wonder if that was to cater to the LA market? but I find it amazing how popular K-Swiss has been with very little advertising. It has longevity, and it appeals to the masses. They just started airing national commercials about 2 years ago. And on ther east coast from the 1980s to 1990 no one ever heard of K-SWISS.

I bought a pair of KSWISS from Standard Shoes on Wilshire & Fairfax in 1985 (i think) for $36.00. My father was pissed that K-Swiss cost that much because in New York I would by Pro Keds for half that amount.

K-Swiss has been around for a long time huh? I'm from Australia so i guess it wouldn't have been the way it was for you in the states but ever since i was growing up there's always been K-Swiss stocked in the American stores... they were the shoe to buy back in the 90's.

They always being advertised in the Source magazine too, gotta love them K-Swiss shoes.

K-Swiss were always a sleeper hit. My family have always worn them no matter the cost because of their "simply white" look. The were called THE White Shoe to wear. As for the advertising, they barely as of recent have started to advertise in commercials and magazine ads. Why? Because as of recently the company has came out with SEVERAL more styles and colors so in order to make up for the cost of shoes produced, they had to create a marketing stradegy. It just so happens that television ads are the best out right now.
