The ancient roman army started shaving it's troops head so they would not get lice and so in battle they rival soldier could not grab your hair and slit your throat.

Re: Shaved Heads
never heard anything about how it started, that's actually a good question.
i've spoken to alot of elders who consider the bald head a "gang" thing, and they don't like it much.

Re: Shaved Heads
Cholos started shaving their head for 2 reasons.
1. The summer heat in Los Angeles got so bad sometimes, their hair just ceased to keep its value due to its great burden.
2. Simply because it is less work to deal with.

Re: Shaved Heads
Black men have always sported bald heads, even before it became fashionable. Folks like Jack Johnson, Joe Gans, Ji-Tu Cumbuka, Louis Gossett, Jr., my grandfather, etc...
Also remember, the original skinheads were the jamaicans, living in Great Britain...

*That's what I'm saying. Check it, I have a picture of my grandfather's father, taken in 1917, where he (great grandfather) is sporting a bald-head, and this pic was taken, not in the southwest, but in the DEEP SOUTH! Mississippi to be exact (Actually, he was my step great grandfather...).GTS wrote:Did you see that special on Jack Johnson last month, it was pretty interesting. In addition, many black men would shave off their heads, especially when they know they're going bald. Several of my cousins have done the same.
Not only that, you have tribes in Africa, that sport bald heads. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that mexicans/chicanos may have their own peculiar reasons for going bald, especially in the early to mid 90's, that's on them. All I'm saying is, that black folks, especially the men, have always sported their hair this way, even when it wasn't popular amongst other races of men...

Asians always been rocking the bald head. Check back to Shaolin Monk days which was thousands of years ago.
I rock it cause it's cheap although the Vietnamese barbers on the corner only charges $10 for a haircut. Plus I don't like my hair it's thick and wavy, looks weird on an Asian dude. And I don't like styling my hair, takes too much of my time.
