I'd say that grime at this moment is better than most of/mainstream US rap. Grime is a new style (originated just few years ago) and hasn't (yet) been commercialized and watered down like nowadays rap is. Pretty much every grime album that comes out is solid. But don't get me wrong, I still listen to a lot of rap, but mostly albums that was released between 1990-1998. After that, after Bad Boy Records and all that, it kinda got watered down and now it's pretty difficult to find any really good albums or artists. And besides, grime and rap are after all two very different kinds of music styles so comparing those is difficult...

And about grime.... Nah, it's not fast house music, house music is something completely different. Grime is pretty much a mix of UK garage, dancehall, and jungle/dnb. Lyrics are most of the time pretty violent (as it originated in East London), and not very complicated with wordplays or such. Although, of course there are exceptions as always.

Here's a good example of grime tune and at the same time shows how rap and grime differs by sound -> http://download.yousendit.com/FD4C0E9E7C11379A -> Wiley - Icepole

For a good introduction to grime scene, check out Run The Road -compilation(s). The first one is the best.

.....or just download it from somewhere ;)

Didn't say that grime would go mainstream (atleast in US). Hopefully not, because to be mainstream you need to be doing pop-sound - something that sound familiar for the masses. I like to see grime scene raw and original, like the raggajungle scene used to be back in the days in UK.

what about lady sovereign? i heard she was considered a grime artist but her stuff sounds commercial as hell.

I actually like the uncommercial stuff. The beats mostly, some of the vocals dont do it for me.

Yea, Lady Sov is commercial. What I've understood is that a lot of grime artists don't really respect her. But she got couple of nice tunes, although lately she hasn't done anything good.

Techno? Do you even know what techno is?

And about that UK accent (most of the cases it's really an East London accent, not particulary UK accent..) - to me it sound actually nicer than US accent. Been listening to US rap for ages, so that "UK accent" sounds just fresh and more "relaxed". A lot of people here likes that accent more than US accent.

And a lot of UK rappers got real talent, and their mainstream rappers/grime artists definetly got more talent than US mainstream "rappers".

Don't know about that... US mainstream is 100% garbage nowadays. But grime artists like Wiley got lyrical talent as well.

But nevertheless, I listen both - UK rap and UK grime. Espeacially I like Klashnekoff, he's always dope.

I wrote "rappers" because most of your mainstream "rappers" can't rhyme or rap shit. That's why I won't call them rappers.

Check this -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4PL5UQkhNM

More UK rap. TERRA FIRMA - WAR. Nice video, dope beat, and good flows. That you can really call rapping.
