Yeah, I'd say so monk, wcrockets is prolly right those 4 always tend to be at the top of toughest cities list....Oakland would be the top candidate for small cities under 500,000.....

I don't know the TRUE meaning of METROPOLITAN vs CITY. Can someone explain the difference to me? LA-Long Beach, how do we define that as ONE Metro Area? Something like LA County?

Anyhow, here are the MOST DANGEROUS METRO AREAS in 2003. (280 Metro Areas)- Population doesn't matter, these are the most dangerous PERIOD.

1 Pine Bluff, AR
2 New Orleans, LA
3 Miami, FL
4 Jackson, MS
5 Stockton-Lodi, CA
6 Myrtle Beach, SC
7 Alexandria, LA
8 Albuquerque, NM
9 Sumter, SC
10 Shreveport-Bossier City, LA
11 Baton Rouge, LA
12 Las Vegas, NV-AZ
13 Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA SURENO's HAS TO LOVE THAT
14 Houston, TX

16 Charleston-North Charleston, SC
17 Baltimore, MD -Heard alot of these cats say that admire L.A. Style
18 Victoria, TX
19 Savannah, GA
20 Tucson, AZ
21 Lake Charles, LA
22 Columbia, SC
23 Fayetteville, NC

Dallas Texas, Modesto, Fresno, New York were all part of this group. Either they were on the best cities list or didn't make the top 25, be proud!

Don't think many people give Lousiana enough credit for being so crazy. Looking at this chart, Lousiana has a serious problem. Any Louisiana Cats here?

That's a trip because your list has Compton on it which does not have anywhere near 500,000+ population (more like 120k?). Good info though, and you are right about your 2nd list, Louisiana looks like they have real problems (4 outta top 11....damn).

Atually Frisco was #7 on the safest cities list of 21 cities with a population of 500,000 or more last year.

CITIES OF 75,000 TO 99,999 POPULATION: (98 cities)

Most Dangerous 10:

1 Camden, NJ (Okay I know some EC know about NJ step up)

2 West Palm Beach, FL (I better rethink vacation plans)

3 Youngstown, OH

4 Compton, CA

5 Miami Beach, FL (I better rethink that one too, how about Virginia Beach?)

6 Richmond, CA

7 Trenton, NJ (I've been there.)

8 Canton, OH (Been there)

9 Pompano Beach, FL

10 North Las Vegas, NV (Where is the 60 from Vegas?)

Though I didn't spend a significant time in Trenton or Canton, those places looked really bad, but didn't seem that bad.

Ya know something, i've lived all over the place and have experienced a lot. to this day OAKLAND IS probably the hardest place. I'm from oakland, and i'm not saying because i'm from there. I was born and raised there with the exeption of 2 years of my life that was spent in little rock, ar. which is pretty hard. i've been through baltimore, k.c., louisville, st. louis, all through l.a. my wife is from the east side of compton by the way, mob/lueders park hood. The military has taken me to a host of places and currently i'm stationed in washington d.c. stats tell one story, experience tells another. The flat lands of east oakland are some of the hardest areas i've been through. let me not forget the late 80's early 90's when the population was about 300,000, oakland averaged about 180 murders. most of these were contributed the drug wars not gang wars that ravaged oakland. Check yall's history. Even the hip-hop magazine the source will tell you that the movie juice, was actually based on a drug lord named felix mitchell, when mario van peebles was out in oakland he saw the funeral. that's where the movie juice comes from.

lol wrd gts.. i used to live on paul ave in the bayview district. The only reason why frisco is "labeld safe" is because of the other nice places, however frisco keeps getting worse and worse, like the 6 murders in 1 week in bayview, overall frisco has a worse crime rate then a good one, out of national avg it ranks a lot higher then it should, as far as murder, robbery and assault.

1992 - East Palo Alto. Population 35,000 est. County: San Mateo
Homicide: 42
Ranked - murder capital of the nation.

Norcal.
East palo alto is still banged out as fuck.
in 1 day 14 people were shot, drug dealers and gangs would shoot street lights out so streets would be dark and they could slang, also cops couldnt do shit, it rained bullets.

Ater checking the 2002 statistics, I agree that Oakland is a pretty bad place to live. A high crime area thats for sure.

I'm from oakland, and i'm not saying because i'm from there. Check yall's history.

I ain't too sure we are talking about the history of cities, but rather the present. You know how old juice is? There are plenty of movies like that pertaining to other cities as well. The stats I posted were for 2003, the latest info available!

Here's a little something for you all:

Crime Statistics Surprise Oakland County Residents
Southfield Has Largest Number Of Major Incidents

UPDATED: 10:23 p.m. EST December 3, 2002 (For 2002 Crime NOT including December obviously))

The city of Southfield touts itself as culturally diverse, economically thriving, and a safe and secure city. But that description doesn't match all the facts.

According to United States Justice Department statistics, Southfield had the largest number of major crimes among Oakland County communities.

Southfield police don't dispute the stats, but they dispute how they're interpreted.

Following Southfield in major crime is Pontiac, with more than 4,500 cases; and Troy, with more than 2,284 major crimes.

Major crime includes murder, rape, robbery and auto theft. So how do the cities rank when you talk specific crimes?

The Oakland County city with the most murders is Southfield, with five. Pontiac has the most rapes, with 90.

The Defenders discovered a majority of cases are reported in the downtown area. When it comes to robbery, Pontiac has the most cases in Oakland County, with 187.

Norcal. East palo alto is still banged out.
2001 Murder Capital

According to the numbers, with nearly 600,000 residents, DC had 262 murders last year. Outranking all major cities, and is again the nation's "murder capital."

Immediately following DC on the list were Detroit (the winner in 2001), Baltimore, Memphis, Chicago and Philadelphia (in that order).

Other notable rankings included: Los Angeles (9), Dallas (10), Boston (18), San Francisco (24), and New York (25). DC was the murder capital runner-up in 2001, we won the title in 2002, and 2003 is already being heralded as a record year for death in the District. All of this proves that this year's 21% jump in homicides is hardly a temporary fluke. It's been building for years!

To GTS: I think you overlooked the FACT that the crime statistics that I posted clearly said, "OVERALL STATS." This would go along with what you wrote: FRISCO MIGHT BE #7 ON THE SAFEST PLACES TO LIVE BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE PERSON THAT MADE THAT LIST ROLL THROUGH HUNTERS POINT, SUNNYDALE, LAKEVIEW, FILLMORE, AND THE MISSION DISTRICT AND SEE HOW SAFE IT IS.

I'm sure the same could be said about rolling through Watts or specific parts of L.A. or any crime ridden city for that matter.

2003 Chicago finished with 599 homicides. That was down from 648 a year earlier and the first time since 1967 that the total dipped below 600.

Still, the nation's third-largest city outpaced all others for the second time in three years. NEW YORK, with about three times the population, ended the year with 596 homicides.

LOS ANGELES had the most murders in 2002 at 658, wound up 2003 with an estimated total just under 500.

I'm not sure if some of you guys realize the original stats that I posted are per 100,000 people and OVERALL CRIME. I don't dispute none of your cities are crazy, but these are governement reports.

EPA had less people than that in 1992... more like 15,000 - 20,000... so that makes the murder rate back then even more crucial.

gary indiana and compton had the highest murder rates last year... i think gary had 59 homicides and compton had like 48-52

In an annual survey by Morgan Quitno using FBI statistics, Atlanta ranked #3, just below Detroit and St. Louis, in the infamous "Most Dangerous City" category. The survey used 2002 FBI statistics, for U.S. cities with a population of 75,000 or greater, and the kinds of crimes included were murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft. While certainly Atlanta has its share of crime like any big city, I find the survey flawed if Atlanta is determined to be more dangerous than the gang and crime ridden L.A. suburb of Compton, California, which ranked #6 on the survey. Having grown up just outside of Compton, which now is idolized and talked about among today's gangsta rappers, I definitely can say I feel much safer in Atlanta. It seems to account for population differences, big cities should have been ranked separate from suburban towns.
