A lot of Korean mobsters have joined the yakuza. Although Japan and Korea have a history of beef, the yakuza is known as an outsider therefore taking in Koreans. The Korean mobsters in Korea are not as organized as the major asian crime familys (Yakuza, Triads, etc..) Thats why you don't hear much about them, but they are out there.

There are lots of Korean yakuzas, and I've even read that one of Japan's strongest family's boss is a Korean, but I think in general they'll always be considered somewhat second class to the Japanese. Like Asians in 18 or Blacks and Hispanics in TRG or whatever... Like, outsiders...

Us young Koreans might be proud that our own people are crazy enough to be joining and running yakuza families, but in actuality, a lot of them were the ones who kept their Japanese given names and probably might rather be Japanese than Korean. Generally, I don't think they are proud Korean people.

I also read somewhere that after WWII, a lot of Korean gangs were running spots in Japan.

Anyway, as for Korean organized crime in Korea, they deal in extortion and prostitution mostly, and run night clubs and whatever. I'm guessing they have a hand in the Korean porn industry as well, just like Japan. Gangsters were also heavily involved in the politics of the early days of the REPUBLIC of Korea.

edit. Then there's gangs like KK and KP who are quite powerful in the States...

KK all got old and sticked to that paperchase...LGKK is slowly followin' in that path as well. KP in NYC i heard got broken up after that big sting where they caught a gang of heads. they don't hold as much power as they once did.
