One Eight Seven (1997) with Samuel Jackson

Unread post by willihen » August 5th, 2003, 1:14 pm

Another good movie is 187 with Samuel Jackson. I think it came out in '97. Although gangs aren't the main topic in the movie, it still is a good movie. The one gang is a fictional hispanic gang.

It has a good soundtrack too.(trip-hop)

I understand that the KOS are not a hood, but im sure there are gangs in LA like them, made up of few members, and not defending a barrio. The best part is where the guy from Brooklyn stabs samuel jackson, thats my fucking part, and when they kill the one doin graffiti, maybe its not the best of all gangs films, but it has great parts. 187 ON A MOTHERFUCKING COP

When they kill the one doing graffiti?
That was pretty harsh....the guy just took out the gun and shot him, just like that, he didn't even look back. Shocking. But then again, maybe that's just because I live in England....

in the past jackson believed that his students were good and wouldnt harm him. then he got attacked. he came to the west and got tired of all the BS, so he lost it and stopped giving a fuk. Its not like he went hard overnight.

Samuel Jackson is a really really great actor. Here's a quick Amazon review of this 1997 movie:

Rare glipse into latino gangster life with powerful ending., March 2, 2003
Reviewer: A viewer from Moreno Valley, CA United States
Other than its obvious telling from a teachers point of view, it gives you a rare glipse into latino ganster life in southern california(something not seen much in non-underground films.) It gets a bit unbelievable with the idea of a teacher going after his students outside of school when they push him over the edge, but that may be how some teachers really feel in that same situation. The ending is powerful because of how Samuel L. Jacksons character gets a hardcore latino gangster to break down and admit a sincere reason why he lives the type of life he does, also because of what Samuel L. Jackson is willing to do to himself for the life this gangster has had to lead and to prove a point in how unnessary it was to live that type of life. This movie really relates to me because I am someone who use to hang around latino gangs but gave it up realizing it was the wrong way to go.

I think the main point was that the guys were soft. They were faking like they were tough, they weren't. Sam Jacksons' character knew they were soft and weak in the mind. Thats why "caesar" killed him self becaue Sam Jackson's character played with his weak mind. There a lot of wannabe gangstaz out there.

The funny thing is that their really is a KOS. They are ol' skool taggers from L.A and the South BAy area but disappeared and then they reappeared in the SF Valley. Now they are WS.KOS13. Their weak though and they dont run sh.. Wait til Blythe Str. notices them.
