The federal government announced Wednesday that it has decided not to seek a fifth racketeering trial against John "Junior" Gotti.<p>
</p><br>
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a one-paragraph statement: "In light of the circumstances, the government has decided not to proceed with the prosecution of John A. Gotti." The prosecutor said the request had been approved by the trial judge.<p>
</p><br>
On Dec. 1, the fourth trial for Gotti in five years ended with a deadlocked jury so evenly divided after 11 days of deliberations that authorities said privately almost immediately that it was unlikely that prosecutors would proceed.<p>
</p><br>
Gotti, the son of the notorious Gambino crime family boss, has been free on $2 million bail.<p>
</p><br>
Gotti has insisted he left organized crime in the late 1990s.<p>
</p><br>
Seth Ginsberg, one of his lawyers, called it the "right decision."<p>
</p><br>
"I hope that they stick to it this time and let John and his family be at peace," Ginsberg added.<p>
</p><br>
Three trials in 2005 and 2006 also had ended in hung juries, after the government presented evidence accusing Gotti of ordering a kidnapping and attempted murder plot against Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa.<p>
</p><br>
In the latest trial, prosecutors for the first time attempted to tie Gotti to multiple murders, in addition to the claims about Sliwa.<p>
</p><br>
The repeated hung juries left some comparing Gotti to his father, the late John "Dapper Don" Gotti. The elder Gotti was convicted of racketeering in 1991. He was sentenced to life in prison and died in prison in 2002.<p>

I think I've pointed out that far more mafiosi still keep their mouths shut and go to prison rather than flip. But it's the rats who get the attention. Junior beat the odds. If he is smart, he'll stay out of the life like he's claimed he has and keep his nose clean. The government will be very gun shy to prosecute him again unless they have an airtight case.mayugastank wrote:This guy beat the Feds 4 times--he beat up to 6 murders ,they spent millions trying to convict him. I think its just the amount of people convicted by the mafia rats and the vast sums of conspiracies they are privy 2 that make them famous. I mean if a guy like Gravano flips and is able to spew major info on hits-conspiracys -money laundering and not everyday type crimes...it gets real bad when guys like CASSO and others do it.
Do we have any articles on the mafia in Federal Prison? Like how they behave -who they run with. Their lifestyle? Their must be a vast slew of made guys in the joint. I read something that Gotti paid protection to the AB up until he had enough guys of his own to back his play....who else was in MArion with him? Where do most these guys do their time?
Just to show similiarities at one point the TEXAS MExican MAfia and Arizona MExican MAfia ran seperately then the CAlifornia EME, they created a pact in about 1997-joining all these groups and making similiar structures and rules for all EME factions they also squashed all Beefs between Arizona EME and created a bylaw linking and acknowledging one EME

CAn you imagine the stress Gotti Jr went through? A guy in his 40s with a family looking at life 4 times? The goverment adding cases to each indictment hoping to at least convict him of one crime? What a rotten ass way to do someone-the boy isnt innocent and accordingly he lived by some code of conduct for his life. You just cant say "hey I wanna be a gangster till it gets to crazy, or I get caught for something then I will turn on all that" but its gotta be a hard decision to make-looking at being buried alive for your beliefs . How many people actually believe in something so strongly?

Re: John Gotti Junior-IMPRESSIVE.
In New York for example, over the last 25 years or so, there have been a little under 50 made members that have flipped. But there have been literally hundreds of members that have been convicted or taken plea deals, done their time, and not flipped. That's what many people forget.mayugastank wrote:YOU SHOULD START A THREAD ON THAT >>>>>MADE GUYS WHO DIDNT FLIP. TRUE GANGSTER THREAD>

Re: John Gotti Junior-IMPRESSIVE.
That's a little less than 50 guys from five families in a period of about 25 years. Right now there are about 750 mob members in New York. If you include the other members that have died over the past 25 years, the total number is increased by several hundred more. So 50 made guys flipped out of well over 1,000. It's just a fraction. Rats do a lot of damage but the mob has the organizational structure in place to stay stable and viable despite them.mayugastank wrote:Yea but 50 memebers is still really really high--most organizations or gangs couldnt ever have 5o snitches and still be viable

Re: John Gotti Junior-IMPRESSIVE.
Yes, there are a lot of mob guys in prison. It's often where members from different families will make contacts with each other. They don't run the joint like back in the old days but they aren't easy pickings for others either. They more or less stick to their own like every group does.mayugastank wrote:Do we have any articles on the mafia in Federal Prison? Like how they behave -who they run with. Their lifestyle? There has been a lot of misinformation about Gotti and the AB. After Gotti was attacked by the black inmate (Walter Johnson) he offered to pay the AB to kill Johnson. The AB accepted the deal but were unable to carry it out before Johnson was paroled. If Gotti had been paying the AB all along, they would have been obligated to retaliate against Johnson without Gotti forking even more money since he was already paying them.
Philadelphia mob boss Joey Merlino was in a Texas prison for a while and made friends with the Mexicans there. He paid them to watch his back but it was a mutual agreement rather than forced protection.

Re: John Gotti Junior-IMPRESSIVE.
The thing is, Junior loved the life and everything that came with it back in the 1980's when his father was running the show. Junior was made in his 20's and given his own crew. He was also given a number of construction and trucking companies. He and his buddies would bounce from nightclub to nightclub throwing their weight around and causing havoc. He had no complaints about things then. It was only later on, after his father died and he wasn't shown the same respect by people in the Gambino family or in other families, as well as when he was demoted from the position of Acting Boss, that his attitude turned. Once he no longer had the protection of his father, he saw how cutthroat the mob life can be. What he never realized was that he was born on third base but he always thought he had hit a triple. Even still, he's sitting pretty. His claims of being broke are nonsense. Many wiseguys claim that when they get hauled into court. He still has a plush home in Oyster Bay and is a millionaire. If he is smart, he'll stay retired and not even jaywalk.mayugastank wrote:CAn you imagine the stress Gotti Jr went through? A guy in his 40s with a family looking at life 4 times? 750 in the streets? they are sure more, the genovese's only have 350 members, if you add the imprisoned members they are over 1.000, tons of guys will get out of prison in the next 5 years, in 2015 probably there would be over 1.000 active mobsters in new yorkRight now there are about 750 mob members in New York

Re: John Gotti Junior-IMPRESSIVE.
Pay no attention to Faciulina's inflated numbers that he pulls out of his ass. If you look at the official estimates by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies, there are approximately 750 total made members in the five New York families. That includes members that are active on the street, inactive, or in prison. The Genovese and Gambino families have about 200 members each. And the Lucchese, Colombo, and Bonanno families have a little over 100 members each. Nationwide there are a little over 1,000 members total. No chance that there is that many in New York alone.mayugastank wrote:Faciulina wrote:750 in the streets? they are sure more, the genovese's only have 350 members, if you add the imprisoned members they are over 1.000, tons of guys will get out of prison in the next 5 years, in 2015 probably there would be over 1.000 active mobsters in new yorkRight now there are about 750 mob members in New York

Re: John Gotti Junior-IMPRESSIVE.
how many members had the new york families at their peak?Pay no attention to Faciulina's inflated numbers that he pulls out of his ass. No chance that there is that many in New York alone

At their colletive peak in the 1950's and 1960's the Genovese and Gambino families each had around 400 members. The Bonanno, Lucchese, and Colombo families each had around 200 members.Faciulina wrote:how many members had the new york families at their peak?

What effected the downsizing of these families most? Murder or arrest?thewestside wrote:At their colletive peak in the 1950's and 1960's the Genovese and Gambino families each had around 400 members. Re: John Gotti Junior-IMPRESSIVE.
Well for one, the families "closed the books" on and off for years at a time. There would be a few years where they would make new members and then they would freeze any new making cermonies for the next couple decades or so. There were a few reasons for this but the result was the general decline in membership over the last 50 years or so. Plus you add in general attrition, defectors, etc. and the families in New York are about half the size they were at their peak.VsichkoEBosh wrote:What effected the downsizing of these families most? You have absolutely nothing to base that on. Nothing whatsoever. It's a big number that sounds good to you so you try and pass it off as fact.Faciulina wrote:the genovese family today has sure over 300 made members
If you look at the average estimates by law enforcement officials, the Genovese family's membership is around 200.

Not to mention the advance in technology which helps with indictment cases.thewestside wrote:Well for one, the families "closed the books" on and off for years at a time. Thats true!
Re: John Gotti Junior-IMPRESSIVE.
we are talking about a family almost impenetrable by the feds, no rats and little wiretaps, when dom cirillo was arrested he had several saints in his pocket, it means they are doing several cerimonies,i doubt they let the family downsize so much since its peak, probably they are not 400 but sure over 300You have absolutely nothing to base that on. Nothing whatsoever. It's a big number that sounds good to you so you try and pass it off as fact.

Nothing whatsoever. It's a big number that sounds good to you so you try and pass it off as fact.
If you look at the average estimates by law enforcement officials, the Genovese family's membership is around 200.

That's what he does. He just picks a number that sounds good to him and throws it out there. Nevermind the fact it's not based on any facts or evidence whatsoever. And the reasons he listed above for why he thinks the Genovese could still number at least 300 really have nothing to do with it.mayugastank wrote:Facuilina - I dont get how you can throw a number out there. As for how many Genovese rats there have been, there have only been 3 known made members of the family that have flipped. All soldiers. The family has yet to have a captain or anyone in their administration turn. The government credits the family's extreme secrecy as being one of the primary reasons it has kept it's organization intact and remained the most powerful Mafia family in the country.

Sammy the Rat isn't full of much these days. The dude is wasting away in Prison after his failed attempt at being a drug king pin and selling extasy to kids. Real stand up guy that Sammy the Rat!youngspade wrote:thewestside wrote:I think I've pointed out that far more mafiosi still keep their mouths shut and go to prison rather than flip. The government will be very gun shy to prosecute him again unless they have an airtight case.mayugastank wrote:This guy beat the Feds 4 times--he beat up to 6 murders ,they spent millions trying to convict him.
