There's a lot of debate about the Bulgarians.

The Bulgarians have an Mediterranean composition, a mDNA study showed a strong correlation with cities in the Middle East, through Turkey and into the Balkans and from then on to the rest of Europe about 50,000 years ago. This matches up with the expansions of humans into Europe as well. Haplogroup studies have shown a migration path through Central Asia into Russia and then finally into Eastern Europe about 30,000 years ago, which would indicate a mixture of Slavic blood as well.

Is there any evidence the original Bulgars were even Mongoloid? Or is it just a linguistic connection like with Finns?

Maybe the original Bulgars looked like these people - Crimean Tatars. More Cauc. than Mong. In fact, totally Caucasoid. The average Northern European looks more mongoloid.

I was completely serious. The Turkic influence in Bulgarians is incredibly strong, look at the long, thin noses, and high cheek bones. I don't think there's much Mongoloid in Bulgarians, they seem to be a mixture of Slavic/Proto-Turkic peoples.

From Asia, with bits of Mongoloid mixture in certain groups, but predominately "White".

Bulgarians are white with some Mongolic admixture from the Mongol invasion. Anyway, Asians and Eastern Europeans are neighbors your going to see some Eurasian mixes.
