The Warriors to be re-made

Unread post by 'X' » December 30th, 2006, 7:58 pm

in L.A.!

"Deja Vu director Tony Scott is keen to get started on his next project, a new version of the 1979 cult-smash, The Warriors.

The film tells the story of a Los Angeles group which is framed for killing the boss of the city's top gang during a time of peace, sending them on a dangerous cross-city mission to get back to their home turf alive.

Speaking to Empire magazine, the 62-year-old said: "I'm going to make it my vision. It's going to be The Warriors meets Kingdom Of Heaven.

"It's a very simplistic story - that's the connection. I'm going to shoot it in LA and all the gang members have said, if I get it on, they'll sign a treaty for the duration of the shoot," he added.

He revealed he plans to make the shoot as real as possible.

"To have 50,000 gang members on Long Beach... you just can't substitute those gang members with extras.

"I haven't met with the heads [of the gangs]", he said.

"In those situations you meet with the second in command. Touching these worlds is exciting for me, because I don't really understand how they function and who these guys are.

The feature is set to hit screens in 2008."

the only thing is that when that movie was filmed, people were really using bats and chains, now its all about guns, i think guns would cheapen the film, but without them it would be as credable to the times, unless it was set in the late 70's

I don't really like the idea. there would have to be some drastic changes from the original. the idea of the original B movie was very unrealistic and dated.

I don't like the idea and personally don't think Tony Scott is being very responsible in remaking it now in l.a. or doing the film any justice.

What? do the gang members get stuck in the valley and have to take the Metro back to South Central. Now days technology is advanced. They'd have cell phones and transportation is alot easier. Not that difficult.

i'll see it and maybe I'm wrong but it seems like not alot of potential.

I agree. Also, having all the gangs look different in the original movie was a cool gimic. That wouldn't play well in an L.A. setting since L.A. gangs have a well known style. I guess you could have each gang with a different color scheme or a different variation on the L.A. gangster style.

I think they should have it in NY again. Just update it with Bloods, LK's, MS13, 5%ers. Don't use real names but have gangs based on those groups

Gangs were already using guns in '79. The Warriors was never meant to be a realistic portrayal of street gangs. It's was just a cool action movie. I've heard the new Warriors is going to be more realistic, based on actual gangs.

If the Warriors had been realistic it would have looked like this:

An actual gang meeting in the Bronx circa 1971:

Brooklyn gang members taking the subway circa 1977:

I haven't even seen the original. Anyways, I wonder Scott's rationale for this one being set in L.A.

Interesting, The old warriors in 1979 I watched when I was about 8 years old and I was living back in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio back then, back then was one of my favorite movies it was a fun movie to watch and it is a classic.
I hope with the new warrios, they can make this a good remake, based on actual real gangs sounds cool and more realistic and I hope the story lines are good and realistic. I hope the movies does not put LA gangs on a big killing spree, real entertaining and maybe some understanding the outside world of people who know nothing about it.
