Re: Big Hazard gang in ramona gardens
I'm sure that there were some black members in many of the gangs that are in that area. At one time Black and Mexican people lived together in harmony, in many areas throughout LA. I'm sure that you don't see any black people there now, especially with all of this racial stuff going on. I think when the black community started to move west and south in LA, it stopped the involvement of blacks in Mexican Gangs and Mexicans in Black gangs.

There's still black people in east LA, even in the 90's there were black cholos in east LA. Again for the 1000th time the racial tension is nothing like you think it is.

Re: Big Hazard gang in ramona gardens
@Femun- I did not know that there were still black people in east LA. I thought that after several of the large public housing complexes were demolished, and the mass migration of the 60's & 70's that most, if not all, of the black people living in that area moved. What areas in east LA do you typically see most of the black people living in today?femun wrote:There's still black people in east LA, even in the 90's there were black cholos in east LA. Only 2 projects were demolished, but they were rebuilt and a few blacks live there now. 1st street east coast crips were in Boyle Heights till the early Nineties.Quepolo3 wrote:@Femun- I did not know that there were still black people in east LA. more blacks lived in the East LA area during the 1960s and early 1970s, but the black population has went down every decade since, probably less than 3% now.

Hazard Grande has been around since the 40's. There was a black gang in the projects called Ramona Gardens (named for the project) back in th 60's. I don't know if they got along BH.

Re: Big Hazard gang in ramona gardens
I met a few guys that created Ramona Gardens at eh annual Slauson Village reunion. So during the 1950 & 60, there were way more blacks in the projects there than there are today.Silencioso wrote:Hazard Grande has been around since the 40's. Re: Big Hazard gang in ramona gardens
he posted that because it is true.
hazard has been around forever, maybe even the 20s but the pjs were built in 1942 i think so thats pretty much about when people think they started but they were a neighborhood before the projects were there.
there were a lot of blacks in the pjs.. not as many as mexicans but still a large population. in the 60's one of the black people got into a fight with a guy from hazard and shot him. after that the guys from hazard threw molotov cocktails in all the back occupied apts and lit their cars on fire until they moved out, which they did. now there is only one black woman left. her son is from hazard as well as one other black guy. one is doing life and the other is dead i think. or doing life as well im not sure.
thats the story of blacks in ramona gardens.

And the projects (Ramona Gardens) got their name from the old Ramona Mexican community..
that existed all along the area where the 10 freeway was built

Re: Big Hazard gang in ramona gardens
Huntington Drive has the Main Street and then the lil Huntington drive that runs parallel with it. Theres 2 big apartment complexes....one of those. Still alot of blacks...but back in the early 2000's it was all Blacks...hence the name Lil Compton. Its right across the Rose Hills Projects on the other side of Huntington Drive. There was a problem with a couple Crips there.....Problem got solved.femun wrote:Is it on Monterey just north of Huntington?martin85 wrote:El Sereno got a big apartment complex full of black people...they even call it "little Compton"femun wrote:Boyle Heights,East La,El Sereno and even North east LA. Re: Big Hazard gang in ramona gardens
If not the 1920s, when? White Fence is mid 1920s and I dont think Big Hazard is older than White Fence. El Hoyo Maravilla (HMV) is probably late 1920s or early 1930s. My guess is that HMV is older than Big Hazard. Temple Street, about mid 1920s. Is it possible that Big Hazard is late 1920s or early 1930s?????MARTINEZ wrote:Big Hazard is absolutely of thee older varrios in East Los282828 wrote:he posted that because it is true.

Again I quote the book Gangs of Los Angeles, White Fence goes back to 1910 but started out as "Lil Fence" and was one of the first gangs to be wholly Mexican.@1 wrote:If not the 1920s, when? Re: Big Hazard gang in ramona gardens
I was asking about Big Hazard founding date. Do you know anything on that? Martinez doubts BH goes back to the 1920s. I think perhaps late 1920s or 1930s.
