according to Wikipedia: 7.452 sq mi or 19.302 sq kmyoungspade wrote:How maany square miles is that!?
All of Los Angeles is over 400 square miles, so it is real small area. That does not include Boyle Heights which is often confused with East LA. BH is just west of Idiana Ave in the City of LA.

Re: What is and where is East Los Angeles?
The original East L.A. ever on the maps was Lincoln Heights, way before it came to be in Belvedere (Maravilla).
Re: What is and where is East Los Angeles?
East Los Angeles is split in two, the City (Boyle Heights) ~ LAPD and the County(East Los unincorporated)~LASD
I think Indiana separates the Two.

Boyle Heights is officially in the City of Los Angeles, but I can see why people consider it East LA too. Do any of the varrios in Boyle Heights such as White Fence, Breed Street, Evergreen, KAM, Vicky's Town, State Street claim EAST LOS?xxx wrote:East Los Angeles is split in two, the City (Boyle Heights) ~ LAPD and the County(East Los unincorporated)~LASD

Re: What is and where is East Los Angeles?
ALL Varrios east of the river claim East Los, including N'ELA & S'ELA., if you just want to break down East Los into ELA proper and Boyle Heights, then i'd say you're missing a whole lot of the East Side., so as to where is East L.A., well, that's e-z, unincorp East L.A. proper., but where was East L.A. originally on early city maps? That was Lincoln Heights., and as to what was consider East Side back in time? Everything east of Calle Principal (Main), including a great portion of the Low Bottoms., but as to where is East Los, East Los incorporates Lincoln Heights, El Sereno, Boyle Heights and East L.A., those four division and all their smaller sub-divisions like Rose Hill, Wellington Heights or Wyvernwood make up "East Los".,

East LA Dukes was in Aliso Village in Boyle Heights.
All gangs in Boyle Heights claim East Lo Angeles.
Boyle Heights is similar to Crenshaw District. It's a Neighborhood within a geographical area
East Los Angeles
-Boyle Heights
-ELA unincorporated County
South Los Angeles
-West Adams
-Jefferson Park
-Crenshaw District
-Hyde Park District
-Leimert Park
-Historic South Central ( low bottoms)
- Watts
Etc....u get the point

Re: What is and where is East Los Angeles?
East LA is quite differenet because it is its own jurisdiction policed by another government. Those area under South LA you mentioned are all neighborhoods within Los Angeles while East LA is its own area. I am not aware that ALL gangs in Boyle Heights claims East Los but you are correct about East LA Dukes, they were in BH.xxx wrote:East LA Dukes was in Aliso Village in Boyle Heights.

Re: What is and where is East Los Angeles?
I'll make this simple. When people refer to East LA they are are refering to 5 neighborhoods. These 5 neighborhoods are Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights, El Sereno, City Terrace and East LA(most people call this East LA Proper) Now this is the complicated part. Boyle Heights Lincoln Heights and El Sereno are part of the City of Los Angeles and are patrolled by the LAPD. City Terrace and East LA are not part of the city of LA they actually belong to the county or as most people would say unincorperated LA and they are patrolled by the Sheriff's department LASD.

Re: What is and where is East Los Angeles?
Dont nobody from Sereno, LHTS, or BHTS consider themselves ELA, they might refer to it as East Los or the East Side, but no ELA, CT does claim to be ELA though. In my eyes Sereno and LHTS are NELOS.femun wrote:I'll make this simple. When people refer to East LA they are are refering to 5 neighborhoods. Re: What is and where is East Los Angeles?
WHO MOVED EAST L.A.?
http://www.kcet.org/updaily/socal_focus ... st-la.html
...IN THE WORLD OF VARRIOS, IT'S A TRIPPY THING HOW ALL "SIDES" AND "AREAS" BREAK DOWN IN A CITY LIKE L.A.
YOU GOT THE EAST SIDE, THE WEST SIDE, THE SOUTH SIDE, THE HARBOR AREA, SOUTH CENTRAL, THE SGV, THE 818, ETC, ETC.
BUT EACH ONE OF THOSE "SIDES" OR "AREAS" BREAK DOWN EVEN FURTHER, AND SOME VARRIOS CLAIM ONE SIDE WHEN THEY'RE COMPLETELY IN A DIFFERENT ZONE, OR EVEN CLAIM ONE THING, LIKE FOR EXAMPLE CLAIMING SOUTH CENTRAL, WHILE THEIR NEXT DOOR VARRIO MAY CLAIM SOUTH SIDE, OR EVEN WEST SIDE.
A RIVER, A FREEWAY, SOME HILLS, A CITY ZONE, THEY ALL SERVE TO BREAK DOWN THE CITY INTO DIFFERENT SIDES, AND IT'S ALL TRIPPY THING., I GUESS YOU GOT TO REALLY GET INTO IT TO MAKE SENSE OUT OF IT ALL.
IN OLD CITY TIMES YOU HAD WHAT THE GABACHOS CONSIDERED EAST L.A., BUT THE EAST L.A. BACK IN OLD THOSE TIMES WAS NOT THE EAST L.A. OF PRESENT TIMES ((MARAVILLA/BELVEDERE, MARAVILLA HEIGHTS/CITY TERRACE)), NOPES, THE EAST L.A. BACK THEN WAS STRAIGHT UP ~> LINCOLN HEIGHTS.
AND THEN THERE WAS THE “GREATER EAST SIDE” WHICH WENT FROM ECHO PARK/ELYSIAN HEIGHTS AND THE TEMPLE BEAUDRY BARRIO, EAST ACROSS THE L.A. RIVER, AND BEYOND TO "THE HILLS"STRETCHING FROM EAGLE ROCK TO BELVEDERE, INCLUDING EVEN THE IMMEDIATE AREA KNOWN TODAY AS THE LOW BOTTOMS (SOUTH CENTRAL L.A.) - SOUTH OF DOWNTOWN WAS CONSIDERED TO BE ALSO ~> “EAST SIDE.”
WITH THE PASSAGE OF TIMES, THINGS HAVE CHANGED, AND NOW EVERYONE CONSIDERS THE EAST SIDE SIMPLY TO BE "ALL ~> EAST OF THE L.A. RIVER," FROM LINCOLN HEIGHTS TO WINTER GARDENS.
BUT EVEN THE EAST SIDE TODAY IS BROKEN UP INTO EAST LOS AND EAST L.A. PROPER.
EAST L.A. PROPER IS MARAVILLA/BELVEDERE, CITY TERRACE, EASTMONT AND WINTER GARDENS, THAT'S THE EXTENT OF UNINCORP EAST L.A.,
BUT THE GREATER EAST L.A. OF FOLKORE IS CALLED “EAST SIDE LOS” ..
AND THE GREATER AREA INCLUDES BOYLE HEIGHTS, LINCOLN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, ROSE HILLS, HAPPY VALLEY, EL SERENO, WYVERNWOOD, AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN!
AND IF YOU' REALLY GO BACK, THEN YOU'D HAVE THE REST OF THE “OLD EAST SIDERS IN NORTH EAST L.A.” STILL CLAIMING TO BE PART OF THE EAST SIDE., MAINLY THOSE OLDIES FROM HIGHLAND PARK, CYPRESS PARK, GLASSELL PARK, ARROYO SECO, AND MOUNT WASHINGTON.

East Los Angeles aka East Los = The Eastside
West Los Angeles aka West Los = The Westside
South Los Angeles aka South Los = The Southside (which has its on w/s & e/s because of its size)
Northeast L.A
everything else, falls under these geographic locations, Neighborhoods , Communities, & Districts
San Fernando Valley is Geographcally the Northside i.e N/S 18st & N/S C14st
Harbor Area is Geographically the most Southern Tip of Los Angeles
Simple as that, yall making it to complicated....
Downtown is the Center of the City, just follow the Compass N/S/E/W , North of, South of, East of, West of (DOWNTOWN)
Los Angeles River separates the East & the West
Santa Monica Freeway Separates the West from the South
Harbor Freeway / Main Street divides South Los Angeles into two sides, East & West according to the STreet Signs, which change directions at Main Street.

it depends i think depending on if you a black or mexican banger, if you white, black or mexican. because to a lot of white people in LA the eastside is everything east of hwood, they dont really venture to east los/east la or south of wilshire so DT aint the center of town.
Re: What is and where is East Los Angeles?
no white people dont view east of hollwood the eastside.....
there are two eastsides in L.A
East Los Angeles/East Los/East L.A/ the Eastside

that's a pretty quick but thorough map of LA. LA began off the banks of the LA River by Olvera Street, which eventually spawned Dowtown LA, and everything grew out from there.xxx wrote:East Los Angeles aka East Los = The Eastside

all these varrios claim EAST LOS ^^
I'll put it like this ... in Y.A. and the Califas state pintas ... there is no Boyle Heights car...its the EAST LOS car!
many have the area tattood on them...
some of my cellies & vatos I did time with from Soto Street, White Fence, State Street had EAST LOS blasted on them...
none of them had boyle heights blasted on them... except if you were from V. BOYLE HEIGHTS
