UFC --- Fixed?

Unread post by Coup » July 8th, 2013, 1:08 pm

I just watched the Spider Silva fight and even though he plays around with his opponents all the time (see his Griffin fight), this was too much. I have read a few blogs/forums that think the fight was fixed to liven up UFC's dropping ratings and gates especially when it comes to Silva. Looking at the sport...other then Bones Jones none of the champs seem like a sure draw anymore?? I don't follow MMA like I do boxing so somebody school me on this.

I really don't watch MMA anymore.

I seen the video where Silva gets caught, fixed? No, it looks legit to me.

No, to me it's definitely not fixed.
He just got cocky and got caught. He always taunted his opponent, and he just went too far because people had said before that Weidman was the guy to beat him. He wanted to prove that's wasn't true and got caught.

There's another video from a different angle of the KO. It doesn't look fixed to me. If I find it, I'll post it.

But that video that coldbear posted, is suspicious to me.

Anderson Silva is just f-ing with the media on that video. He always does this. He loves it, he does it almost more than anybody else in the UFC.
He was also upset of how many people were saying Weidman was the guy who was going to beat him.
I honestly don't see anything in that interview that makes me think it was fixed.

That vid is interesting but I don't think UFC as a whole is fixed. Maybe Silva took a dive n collected a paycheck but Weidman is legit!

There's a lot of hungry fighters in the UFC that want to make a name and show their skills. I am a big UFC fan but not so big on Dana White and certain fighters/antics.

But I wouldn't be surprised if I found out silva n his camp took 'sonny Liston' phantom punch type move.

Can you elaborate or theorize to back your claim?

Well the UFC releases the fighters pay after the fights and I remember silva collecting like between $500,000 or $800,000 thousand for the fight vs. weidman. That's quite the payout.

NOW...I don't think he dived but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.
The reason I say this is b/c before this fight EVERY analyst, UFC fan, UFC fighter and weidman himself KNEW silva was gonna lose. Everyone. And Silva being one of the BIGGEST draws, there's no way in hell Dana white would allow him to get manhandled and pounded. Pigs would fly before silva were to be bloodied and pounded.

SO, since silva is a huge draw and a demigod in Brasil, it would make financial sense to 'drop' this fight, learn weidman a style, train accordingly, and collect an even bigger payday for a rematch.

now I'm not saying this happened, but if there's talk of UFC fixing anything, this is my theory as to how/why it went down.

Purely financial...for the UFC and it's biggest stars...

Not everybody was saing that, and the people saying that were saying that because Weidman is basically a better Sonnen. They saw in him things that could make him the champion.
They didn't KNEW Silva was going to lose. They were predicting he was going to lose, like anybody can make prediction about fights.
White allowed it because like he says, people can say what they want. He never tells a fighter what to say.

People need to accept the game. It's a sport, and a sport is that way: you have upsets.

Because Dana is loyal to the moneymakers. Its purely financial.
And, Silva is a demigod in brazil. The UFC is HUGE in brazil. You dont bite the hand that feeds you.

just seeing this for the 1st time

the left punch barely touched him

no way did it have the EFFECT that Silva tried to display it had

I watch the 2nd part of the vedio a whole bunch of times, and Im more and more convinced...

the Fix is in

now after that phantom punch...

he purposely dropped his hands and then Silva really got TOUCHED UP in a real way

but the 1st punch that supposedly "rocked" him... naw, that was fake (IMO)

Martinez,
I see what you're saying, but I think that first punch @:30 of the video, Silva is purposely playing the part like he's hurt. It ends up backfiring on him though.

The first punch didn't "supposedly touched him".
That's Anderson Silva. He plays with you, he taunts you. He was doing that to mess with Weidman.

Like when he puts his back against the cage, hand down and waits for you to hit him.
Image

Or when he pays tribute to Royce Gracie with a weird stance
Image

Or when he does like "Oh, I put you down, let me help you to get up"
Image

Or when he just stands, hands down and doesn't move
Image

Or when he acts like "Come, hit me! Fight! Come on!"
Image
Image

That's over-confidence, not fixing.
When it works, it's genius, when it fails, it's ridiculous.

Good stuff RomanoBundy, especially that Royce impression. I never noticed that before.
