Armenian Power 13 & Westside Armenian Power
I've read that there was a division in the Armenian Power gang due to a high placed member being stabbed for refusing to kick up a debt he owed to an Eme member. Half the gang identifies themselves as Westside Armenian Power (the ones that split off) and the other half remains Armenian Power 13, who still pay homage to the Mexican Mafia. Has anyone else heard anything else about this?

Re: Armenian Power 13 & Westside Armenian Power
I have never met an AP member that pays homage to the Mexican Mafia. Just because they use 13, does not mean they pay homage to la Eme. White gangs in the 1970s and 1980s used 13 in Los Angeles for years.

Re: Armenian Power 13 & Westside Armenian Power
What white gangs used 13 for LA in the 70's? How would 13 stand for LA? I don't get that, but I do know some whites from LA did use 13 for whatever reason. I think some were paying homage, while some for other reasons. I would think nowadays only sureños claim 13 in LA.alexalonso wrote:I have never met an AP member that pays homage to the Mexican Mafia. You mean what did the 13 represent for white gangsters in LA? Im going to go out on a limb and say it represented the same thing as it did for the chicano and filipino gangsters before the SUR came to be. Bad luck, bad asses, loko etc.

I know in stoner culture, it can be something like taking the so called bad luck number and embracing it like it was bad ass or whatever. Alex said it stood for LA, so I was asking how that were so.VictoriousHTZ wrote:You mean what did the 13 represent for white gangsters in LA? I think Alonso threw this post in just to stir the pot. Maybe a post like this will wake things up around here.alexalonso wrote:I have never met an AP member that pays homage to the Mexican Mafia. Re: Armenian Power 13 & Westside Armenian Power
I am pretty sure that Armenian power is composed of Armenians that became Surenos! Why else would they have that name? Things are not always so clear cut in Gangbanging! A lot of times other races join these groups. I cant say that I have ever witnessed an entire gang being composed of another ethnicity being either Norteno or Sureno. I have seen plenty Nortenos and Surenos that were not Mexican though!

Theres some Filipino gangs that are and have tried being Surenos.
Non Chicanos with Sureno gangs are Filipinos, El Salvadorians, and Armenians. Interesting enough there was always some racist shit threw back and forth but they stayed down for Sureno.
Reminds me of Asians bangin colors.
No matter what, someone ALWAYS have somethin to say, but it aint bothering those in the trenches.

Dude what the heck you didn't even understand what he said p, he simply said white gangs in the 70s and 80s used the number 13 insid L.A for years. Then you reply and say that he said " white gangs used 13 "FOR" LA in the 70s.MMRbkaRudog wrote:What white gangs used 13 for LA in the 70's? How would 13 stand for LA? No man what's so hard to even read correctly he said they use 13 in l.a as opposed to in San Diego and not as you said "for" l.a .....come on bro you missed something very small but it led you to replying in an absolutely wrong way. I hope you understand what Ian saying and it's not a big deal but I can't stand it when people just can't even see the actual words in a sentence and then. Implement change what the person said.

@ criminal boss, that book is the "Mexican Mafia Encyclopedia" Its pretty good! I suggest looking at "Urban street terrorism as well. Gabe Morales has books out on every major prison gang. You can buy individual books on one specific gang for about $15 or just buy prison gangs in america by him. That one book is the best by far in my opinion! It covers all prison gangs coast to coast but is mostly about California. It is about $30!

Re: Armenian Power 13 & Westside Armenian Power
Thinking about Armenians in the LOS left an impression on me. They were hated on from the city to the valley.. Now I think its because of their machismo culture. Others tend to view it and react with hostility. From Virgin Middle School in West Los to Verdugo Hills High School in the Valle, Armenians who didn't even bang were involved in rumbles with Mexicans. Even other ethnic groups had bad things to say.
Now the Mexicans who acted hostile towards other cultures is part of the gang culture in LA. Test any would be threat around you. Is it really racism? Or is it the mob mentality of human behavior, with racism being an outcome? There are many examples of other ethnic groups doing it to others.
Which leads to the old conspiracy theory of "Divide and Conquer." The streets, prison system and politics are great examples.
Now does the Divide and Conquer conspiracy hold water? Just thinking..

Big news today for both the Armenian Power and Asian Boyz gangs in L.A.
For AP, 74 accused members were charged with a debit-card scam said to be worth $20 million, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in L.A. For the Asian Boyz, its former leader, Marvin Mercado, was convicted of eight murders and 10 counts of attempted murder.
Now, the real issue is, which gang scares white, suburban L.A. more? We break it down:
Armenian Power
Scary: They're big, buff Armenian dudes who aren't even afraid of Mexicans. Mexicans rule the streets of California. We're Mexican, and Mexicans scare us.
Not-so-scary: The charges Wednesday as part of "Operation Power Outage" accuse the purported members of pulling the scam at 99¢ Only Stores, meaning they were allegedly robbing grandma one can of soup at a time. Gangsta (with a discount)!
Scary: The Armenian Power set is known to roll with heavy firepower, including automatic rifles.
Not-so-scary: The accusations claim that AP members geeked out by installing sophisticated card skimmers at the stores to get "data" that could lead them to dip into victims checking accounts, but only through savvy knowledge of banking that would make even Ben Bernanke call his I.T. guy.
Scary: The name Armenian Power conjures up visions of an Army of gangsters.
Not-so-scary: Members are known to drive BMWs, which conjures up images of '80s preppies in polo shirts and v-neck sweaters
Asian Boyz
Scary: Thirty-seven-year-old Marvin Mercado was convicted of coldly murdering eight people.
Not-so-scary: We kid you not this gang has the highest grade point average of any criminal enterprise out there. (No, we do kid).
Scary: Mercado was involved in the ambush homicides of two rival Latino gang members, Armando Estrada and Miguel Limon, in Van Nuys in the spring of 1995.
Not-so-scary: Later that decade the Asian Boyz members were actually responsible for the most successful street clean-up and community fundraiser in Van Nuys history. (Again, we joke. Send emails to our editor).
Scary: Authorities have said Asian gangs like the Boyz could be behind "grow houses" in San Gabriel Valley neighborhoods that churn out pounds of high-grade pot.
Not-so-scary: Cannabis is practically legal in California. This barely rates above cheating on your college exam as a crime.
Scary: Mercado was involved in an attack on three victims were mistaken for rival Taiwanese gang members; they were followed in the car they were riding in by three carloads of Asian Boyz in 1995.
advertisement
Not-so-scary: The Boyz's rides are often underpowered Acura Integras with loud mufflers, a good amount of bondo, and ridiculous "shopping cart" spoilers on the hatches. Because when you're straining to go 85 you really need a lot of downforce. These cars come in handy, though, because as you're laughing and pointing, with your guard down, they get ya! (Again, kidding. That's editor@laweekly.com).
So what have we learned today about some of L.A.'s more notorious gangs? Really, the only conclusion is that any ethnicity, even ones with "model minority" stereotypes, can be made to scare the bejesus out of white, suburban SoCal with deft use of the English language:
1) Add Power to the end of your ethnic group: Polish ... Power! See. Mongolian ... Power. Ouch. Step aside.
2) Add Boyz to the end of your ethnic group. Again: Argentinian ... Boyz. Welsh Boyz. New Guinean Boyz. See. Too tough.

See. Too tough.
