Hispanic Gangs in the San Fernando Valley

The San Fernando Valley (not to be confused with the adjacent City of San Fernando), the northern section of the City of Los Angeles, is home to the most Hispanic gangs in the City, partly because it is also the largest section defined by the map. There are only two black gangs in the entire area (Pacoima Piru and Original Valley Gangster Crip) while the 40 plus Hispanic gangs comprise over 95 percent of the gang population.

Although there are more street gangs in this area than other parts of the city, the six police divisions that patrol this area are among those with the lowest reported gang crimes and the overall lowest crime rates in the entire City of the total 19 LAPD divisions.

These neighborhoods in the valley are patrolled by Van Nuys, West Valley, North Hollywood, Foothill, Devonshire & Mission divisions. On an annual basis, these divisions are never in the top 5 of divisions reporting type 1 felony crimes most associated with gang activity. Although there are a significant number of gangs there, the San Fernando Valley remains one of the safest area of the City.
