The victim is unidentified and Santa Ana police say they have little information on suspects, but they believe the killing is gang-related.
A drive-by shooting left one man dead this morning in Santa Ana, and police said the killing may be gang-related.
Police received a call at 6:45 a.m. of shots being fired from a moving vehicle in the 600 block of North Bewley Street, said Santa Ana Police Cpl. Jose Gonzalez. When officers arrived, they found a man in his early 20s lying in the street in front of a church with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and leg.
He was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he died, Gonzalez said. He has not yet been identified.
Witnesses told police they saw a gray or silver sedan with multiple occupants flee the scene, Gonzalez said.
"At this point, there is very little information regarding the suspects in this case," Gonzalez said. "Given the fact that it occurred as a drive-by, and other factors, it is believed to be a gang-related homicide."
Anyone with information can call the Santa Ana Police Department's gang homicide unit at (714) 245-8648. Those who provide information can be eligible for a reward up to $50,000 through the gang homicide reward program, Gonzalez said.
