CONCORD — A teenager was shot and wounded early this morning after a group of men drove up and asked him and his friends whether they had gang ties, police said. Police were called to Hillcrest Park by the shooting victim, a 16-year-old Concord resident, about 12:10 a.m., said Concord police Cpl. Kerry Cerletti. The victim told police that he was walking with a group of friends near Olivera Road and Grant Street when a blue sport-utility vehicle, possibly a Jeep Cherokee, pulled up beside them. One of the vehicle's occupants then asked the group if they "banged," a term often used to describe involvement in gang activity. Cerletti said the victim was confused by the question, and after being asked again and not answering, walked away from the vehicle. At that point, someone from the vehicle opened fire, striking the teen in the wrist and both shoulders, Cerletti said. No one else was struck. The teen was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuires, Cerletti said.
