Fresno gang sweep follows fatal shootingPublished online on Monday, Jun. 15, 2009Police officers completed an anti-gang operation in southwest Fresno Sunday that was launched after a shooting Thursday that left two men dead. Ninety-seven people were arrested in the sweep -- 35 on felony counts and 62 on misdemeanors. Sixteen gang members were taken into custody and six parolees and 10 probationers were arrested. Jose Mendez, 49, and Pablo Mendez, 38, were killed in Thursday's shooting. David Plascencia, 26, was wounded and hospitalized.
