Prosecutors Discover Motive In Jennifer Hudson Murders

Previously believed by Chicago police to be an act of jealousy, prosecutors in the Jennifer Hudson family murder case now say it was a birthday present leading 27 year-old prime suspect William Balfour to commit the triple homicide.
According to new reports, the Academy Award winning actress’ sister, Julia, had turned 31 years-old the day before the murders. Balfour, Julia’s estranged husband (who had previously served a 7 year prison sentence for attempted murder and carjacking) reportedly arrived at the Hudson’s Englewood home on the morning of October, 23rd to discover a present he believed had been sent to Julia from a boyfriend.
Accused of subsequently entering the home and shooting Hudson’s mother, 57 year-old Darnell Donerson, and her brother, 29 year-old Jason Hudson, police believe Balfour then fled the home with Julia’s son, 7 year-old Julian King. Found 3 days later in the backseat of Jason’s SUV parked several miles away, investigators now think Julian was shot in the vehicle on the same morning.
Since his arrest, Balfour has denied any involvement with the gruesome act, claiming he left the Hudson residence that morning and went home by train. According to Cook County Assistant State's Attorney LuAnn Snow, however, Balfour’s transit card wasn’t used that morning, and cell phone records place him near the Hudson home at the time of the murders.
Additionally, prosecutors now say gunpowder residue found inside Balfour’s car give their case a strong boost.
“[The residue] is indicative that he fired a handgun,” Snow told reporters this week, “so yes, indeed, there is physical evidence.”
But according to Balfour’s attorney, Joshua Kutnick, his client is being unfairly targeted.
Says Kutnick, “We are extremely confident that once all of the evidence has come to light and has been tested by our vigorous analysis of the case, that William will be found not guilty.”
