Long Beach Police detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect(s) of a deadly weekend shooting. On Saturday, June 19th, 2022 at approximately 8:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Anaheim Street and Roswell Avenue for reports of a shooting, which left a 30-year-old man dead. Upon arrival, officers found the victim inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers performed aid until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital where he later died. The victim’s 7-year-old son was a passenger in the vehicle when the shooting occurred. Thankfully, the boy was not struck by gunfire. However, he suffered minor non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The child was released from the hospital shortly after the incident and was reunited with this mother. Emotional support services were offered to the family of the victim.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Leevi Matuni Maseuli of the City of Palmdale. To commit such a heinous crime in any circumstance is unacceptable, but to do so on Father's Day in front of the victim's child is even more disgraceful. This blatant disregard for our community will not go unanswered and our investigators are working diligently to identify anyone involved in the victim's death," said Police Chief Wally Hebeish. "No child should ever have to endure an experience like this and I am asking the public to please speak up with any information, no matter how small, that could help us find those responsible for this callous act of violence" Homicide detectives immediately responded to the incident and began processing the scene and interviewing witnesses. Through their preliminary investigation, detectives learned that the victim was seated in his vehicle when he was shot. Right now, there is no suspect description or a known motive for the shooting.
