LOS ANGELES -- A boy about 7 years old and two teenage boys were killed Friday in an apparently gang-related drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles that left a 14-year-old boy critically wounded, police said.

The gunfire erupted about 4:30 p.m. at 49th Street and Central Avenue, said Los Angeles police Officer Jason Lee.

Police were looking for several male suspects in a red or burgundy Suburban with tinted windows, Lee said.

LOS ANGELES - Gunmen in an SUV shot a child, a teenager and a young man to death and critically wounded another teen on a South Los Angeles Street Friday, police said.

The 4:30 p.m. shooting appeared to be gang-related, said Officer Jason Lee.

Three male victims, ages 7, 17, and 20, died at the scene, Lee said. Another boy, who appeared to be between 12 and 14, was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition.

Witnesses told police they saw four men take off in a red or burgundy Chevrolet Suburban with tinted windows, Lee said.

Gunman kills three in L.A.
By Daisy Nguyen, Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- A gunman toting an assault rifle got out of a vehicle and shot a child, a teenager and a young man to death on a South Los Angeles street Friday before the car sped away, police said.

Three male victims believed to be 7, 17, and 20 years old, died at the scene, assistant police Chief George Gascon said. Another boy, who appeared to be between 12 and 14, also was shot and taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition.

“They were clearly the targets,” Gascon said, but added that investigators were trying to determine if there was a link between the victims and the gunman.

Three of the victims were related.

Police initially said the 4:30 p.m. shooting appeared to be gang-related, but later said they have not received any information to confirm that aspect.

At the crime scene, city Councilwoman Jan Perry announced a $75,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunman.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said he was angered to learn that two young children were targeted.

“I was particularly outraged that somebody in cold blood would kill two young people who were standing on a sidewalk,” Villaraigosa told reporters. “This is an absolute tragedy and one we cannot accept.”
